Hi guys! This question doesn't really fit the Fibro board, but since all of you are like my Fibro "homies" I feel more comfortable asking this question in the Fibro section. Here's the story: I recently was suffering from E-Coli and my GP put me on anti-biotics, well after the week of anti-biotics, I still didn't feel good and was nauseated (spelling?) so I went back to the doc and was told that the Fibro was slowing down the recovery ( I knew that ) so I was given more anti-biotics and some meds for the nausea. Soooooo, my stomach was in an uproar, and I called the emergency room, the nurse said it was most likely the anit-biotics making me nauseated. Okay, so I went back to my GP and he told me that anit-biotics not only kill the bad bacteria but also kill the good bacteria that live in my GI system, so he gave me some samples for gastritious (spelling?). Well, the pills worked. I FINALLY felt better and could start to do things again, HOWEVER, when the samples ran out, in two days the stomach problems came back. I'm tellin' you, the way my stomach feels has stopped me dead in my tracks. I don't feel good enough to even put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Pitiful? So, I called my GP to get back in there and get some more of this medication that helps my tummy feel better, but my doc is out until Monday ( 23rd ).
So, heres the question (after all that): Has anyone experienced this after a round of anti-biotics, and is there ANYTHING that I can stick in my mouth that will settle my stomach until I can get to the doc. The only time my stomach doesn't bother me, is when I'm sleeping. It's so frustrating. I have a couch full of unfolded laundry! :( I have been taking Acidophoulis (sp?), drinking baking soda, using ant-acids, throwing up to empty my stomach, nothing is even coming close to easing the nausea. I can't even drink water, it makes my stomach upset, drinking Kool-Aid is the only thing I can seem to stomach, so to speak. Advice?

With love, your fellow Fibromite with an upset tummy! :(

Hi. When my tummy gets that upset, I go to a brat diet, only foods that begin with the letters B R A T, if that doesnt settle it down I will drink chicken broth and eat crackers, dont just wolf the crackers down thou, suck on them like a piece of candy.
Good luck

Thanks. I'm about ready to lose my mind. I called my doc's office Wednesday and they said I couldn't get in to see him until Monday, cuz he'll be out until then. I'm about ready to go outside and eat grass. Isn't that what dogs do when they have upset tummies?

Hi Tk,

Try over the counter pepcid complete. That seems to settle me down when the antibiotic make me sick. You probably want to take them within a couple hours of your other meds though, so they don't interfer.

Good Luck

I'm sitting here trying to think of the food in my fridge that begins with B R A or T! Which ain't much, since I hate to cook. Well, maybe I'll lose some weight until Monday! My doc seems to think it also may be my gallbladder, but I don't think so since the samples of the gastro meds helped me immediately. AAAAAAAAhhhh, to feel normal again! (sigh)

Oh I hope your tummy feels better soon. I get this kind of nausea sometimes too. The nausea will get so bad that it makes me throw up. It's as if it hurts just to have food in my stomach so I understand what you mean. There is a cherry flavored syrup for nausea (normally for kids) called emmetrol I think. Not sure what the generic name is. But anyway this seems to help me when I just can't get it under control. You just take a couple teaspoons and let it settle your stomach. Don't drink any water or anything else for about an hour. It's for adults too as a "hangover" cure.

I know your digestive system has been through hell lately. I remember when you had the ecoli..ugh. Like we don't all have anough already.

Feel better - Andy
