Hello Everyone,

My stepmother has recently had a stroke and is currently in the hospital. She has had some seizures along with the stroke and went into a coma. She came out of the coma and regained some speech, eating, and memory abilities and was doing really well considering how severe her stroke was. Then out of no where she regressed back to not being able to speak, eat, or even move her limbs. She can keep eye contact while someone speaks to her, but thats all. Her doctors have no idea why she has regressed so, because they have no evidence of another stroke happening, especially sense she was recovering so well. Has this happened to any of you or any one you know that has suffered a stroke? Another MRI was done and showed no evidence of another stroke or anything that has happened since the first one, they just can't tell us anything, or even what to expect. Do any of you have any information that you can share to shed some light on her situation? I appreciate any and all replys, Thank you!

I really wish someone could share something, anything... like what we should expect in the coming months, or your experience with a stroke and how you have been affected by it.

Hi!
I can understand your frustration when all you want from the doctors is answers but, as one explained to me yesterday, you cannot make black and white out of something that is grey. True, but it doesn't really help when someone you love is ill and you want to understand.
I cannot make any real suggestions. My 71 year old cousin supposedly had a stroke 6 weeks ago but they are now questionning that as they have found hydrocephalus. I guess the scan would have shown anything in your family's case but it is the only other thing I can throw into the equation for you. Sorry I can't be of help but do post again if only for support for you.
Take care.
Tammie

Thanks you for your reply it is greatly appreciated! She isn't in her right mind anymore, she well recongnize people one minute and not the next. Sometimes she can sit up and move around, and others she can't do anything but lay and stare. I feel like she has had some major brain damage from the stroke, and basically the doctors have said that they don't expect her to get any better with her mind. Terrible news for my father, is just doesn't know whether he is coming or going anymore. He has to work to keep income coming in, clean the house, and care for her mentally retarded daughter. My older step sister helps when she can, and I do what I can as far as the house, laundry etc. goes. But I leave far away, and have 2 children one with ADHD thats driving me nuts, and makes things hard for me do. I just wish there was comfort I could give him. Thank you again for your response. And I wish the best for your cousin.
