Hi
I would like to know if condoms give the same level of protection for people down with genital herpes as compared to people without herpes?
Is it a much greater risk for contacting hiv even if condom is used for a person down with genital herpes??
Thanks

Hey Alex, im a newbie here on the board, and thought id respond to your question....First of all I'll let you in on my story, I got herpes from a one night stand, USING PROTECTION PLUS BIRTH CONTROL....It was something all girls do at one point in their life, and i made the choice to do it (stupid regretful decision to this day), but i made sure he used protection, and i still got herpes from him, it only took between 7-13 days for me to end up in the ER, when i got the news back from the culture they took....anyhow, my point is, even with him wearing that condom, and me being on birth control, a part of him did touch me, that WASNT covered with his condom, and i contracted the disease, so my answer would be chances are high that you will spread herpes to someone else, whether or not they have herpes, doesnt matter. a condom only covers a portion of the body, everywhere else around it, including near the groin, buttocks, and pubic region when coming into contact with wet or moist conditions (which of course it will, when engaging in sexual activity) the possibility of spreading herpes is very high...and second of all about your HIV question, I dont know much about HIV, because Im not living with that, like I am herpes, but I do now that its a fact rom statistics, people living with herpes, have a higher chance of contracting aids, or HIV, as well as many other life-threatening diseases....I hope all this information serves as a fact check for you, and I hope it helps you a little bit more along the way...please feel free, if you need any support, im here...

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I got herpes despite using protection as well.
How long have u contacted this? Is it HSV 1 or 2?
Was your first obs bad?? And do u still suffer from any more recurrences??
I was really down since I was diagnosed with this. I am living in a conservative asia country and I really that my prospect of marriage is really low. I do not have the courage to go after someone I like.
I don't know. But I can't contemplate staying single for my whole life.
May be I would settle for an arranged marriage.
Thanks for the reply

Alex,
The reason that people with herpes are at higher risk for HIV is that we have more tendanacy to have openings in the skin. If you have an active sore and come in contact with the HIV virus, it's going to have an easier time getting in to your system.
I believe that ondoms should offer you a similar level of protection, which is not a 100%, but aside from abstinence they're they best choice we have.
