I am new to this and hope I am doing it right. I am 43 years old and I was in the hospital about 4 weeks ago for about 6 days with diverticulitis. About 1 month before the diverticulitis I had Arthroscopic Shoulder surgery on my right shoulder. I had several IV's while in the hospital for diverticulits. One of the IV's, which was inserted at the inside of my elbow, in my right arm infiltrated and ever since then I am having so much trouble with my arm. Do IV's that infiltrate affect the tendons, ligaments and whatever else is in the arm and shoulder. Pain is unbearable sometimes and I can't sleep.
Maybe its frozen shoulder or maybe I reinjured it. Who knows.
One more question. I am still having mild symptoms of diverticulitis I think. I will have a colonoscopy as soon as symptoms clear up. Has anyone ever been misdiagnosed with diverticulitis. I am still having pressure and constipation. Ok thats it!

Dear Mita:
Your arm may hurt from the positioning during the procedure. I woke up after a rectal resection with my arm killing me. They were worried about a heart attack, but it just felt as though I damaged it. Three days later, the whole thing was black and blue. So, may have happened during surgery.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!

PS Try increasing water intake, and possibly start a fiber supplement for the constipation.

Thanks for the reply. Hope I am doing this right
The pain in my arm is severe. I was doing physical therapy after ARthroscopic Shoulder surgery and I was doing well. Then boom I was in the hospital (I really thought I was healthy) with diverticulitis. I did not have surgery on my colon but I am awaiting the go ahead to have a colonoscopy. I think I may have reinjured my arm. My appointment for ortho doctor got changed from Wed to Fri so I am going to have to wait. Meanwhile I am trying to work so I can save my sick time in case my colonoscopy comes back that I need surgery. It's a weird situation. Wish I could just stay home and get well but can't see that happening.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I'll just have to give it time!

The doctors dx me with diverticulities in Nov. of last year. This went on with we being really sick until Feb. of this year. The doctor sent me the the emergency room because they thought I had a blockage, and they found cancer. It was not diverticulities at all. Colon cancer the had moved to the liver. So please get a colonoscopy as soon as possible. What are you doing for you constipation? I had surgery July 20, 2004. The resectioned my colon and worked on my liver. One spot on the liver they could not get because it was too close to artery. ANyway my bowles worked okay, after they got them stated, for about two weeks. Now I have a hard time getting them to move and it is very painful. Can not figure out why they worked and now they don't do so well. Have any of you had this problem, and if so what did you do. Thanks for your help. Dorothy

Hi tillyden...........long time no hear.
Did they operate on your bowel and liver at the same time??? Wow. Husbands bowel surgeon sneaked a peek at his liver but left it for the liver man to do his magic work. Did you get all your chemo/radiotherapy?
Cant really answer your question on BMs other than to say that husband suffers from loose bowels and high frequency. Does occassionally turn to constipation if intake of fats is high also some meds block him up like antibiotics and anything to do with antisickness.
If he needs to he will use a solution to loosen him up (cannot for life of me remember what its called but over the counter stuff and is white and pastey). He gets results of scan this Friday so we are both on tenterhooks
Anyhow, its great to hear from you.

Hi kytee. Yes it has been awhile since I got to post. Chemo was really hard on me so they had to stop and decided to to surgery. The did both the colon and liver at the same time. Really hope I never have to go through that again. They look out left lobe of liver, and burned off the ones they could. You are in my prayers and thoughts that everything will turn out great on Friday. I go for another ct on the 30th and see the doc on Sept. 3rd to see where we go from here. He is concerned about putting me back on chemo right away since I only tolerated 5 treaments last time. I have lost about 40 pounds and am only weighing 97 now so they are concered. Well must go, but I will try to be checking in regularly. Tillyden (Dorothy)
