Some of you may already know I take a thyroid medication which my thryoid doctor said he thought alot of my weight problem was from thyroid and this medicine would really help me alot.
But I went to my regular doctor and had another ultra sound done and just got the results back today and she says there is absoulty nothing wrong with my thyroid...no goiter or anything! So I'm at a loss here..Don't know what do to or who to believe. Guess I'm going to find yet another doctor and see what he/she comes up with  .

Good grief! Did your regular doctor have anything to say about why the other doctor would think you had a goiter? How frustrated you must be! Are you going to say anything to the thyroid doctor about these new results? Are you still taking the thyroid medicine? Well, I know you feel the same way about doctors that I do, so guess I don't need to go off on a rant tonight :D
Just wanted to say "hey" real quick...haven't been on the boards much but planning to spend some time tomorrow. Hang in there!

Hi Christin...I am so frustrated right now. My regular doctor wants all the test results and stuff from my thryoid doctor to see what in the world he is talking about. My regular doctor said all that stuff should have been sent to her anyway. She said maybe he was just a "quack" and getting money. But I just don't know what to belive because when I called the office of my thyroid doctor to get the results he wasn't even there and a nurse told me I had a goiter so more people saw the test then just him so I don't see her lying to me about it. I don't know whether to keep taking the medicine or not. I am going to get all the test results sent to her and then she said she would refer me to another thyroid specialist. So it's just a waiting game.
Hope you are doing good.

Hi there - you need to have a goiter or an enlarged thyroid to have a thyroid problem. I have had hypothyroidism for over 10 yrs and have never had a goiter or enlarged thyroid. Ask the Doc to run a thyroid panel including a TSH T3, T4, Free T4 and the thyroid antibody. That should tell you whether you have a thyroid problem or not. Hope this helps you out.
I agree, you don't have to have an enlarged thyroid to have thyroid problems. I would believe the endocrinologist, as it is his or her specialty, over the family doctor. The endocrinologist looked at your bloodwork, noted your symptoms, and prescribed thyroid meds based on that information. How do you feel?
What you should do any time you have tests taken, is ask for a copy of the results. Don't accept "oh, everything is fine" or anything else they might tell you. See for yourself. If you are unable to interpret the results, you can research it, ask your doctor to explain, or ask questions on these healthboards (the thyroid board seems especially knowledgeable).

Oops I just realized that I put that you need to have an enlarged thyroid or goiter, I meant to say that you don't need either of those to have a thyroid problem.
Sorry for the mistype
