I know i contracted the HPV virus off my current bf as he is the only person i have been with, i was diagnosed with genital warts yesterday and im in soo much pain ... cant hardly sit down it hurts so much :( so im off to the gyno on friday to take the necessarty steps to get rid of it ... my boyfriend was also feeling weird down there and hes awaiting some tests back fromt he doctor with his diagnosis ...

i Have a few questions if people can please help:

- once the infection has cleared up is it ok to have unprotected sex again with my same boyfriend (i am on the pill)

- will HPV reduce the effectiveness of the pill?

- how long does it take for genital warts to clear up using the cream, laser surgery and freezing? (the doc said my case of genital warts wasnt too bad...)

- what will my bf have to do to get rid of the infection in his case? i dont think hes got a too bad case of the virus either....

thanks so much for your help! im under so much stress about this ... so upset about it all :(

The infection never clears up, you'll be infected with the virus forever, and your boyfriend will too.

Sorry to say but there is no way to completly get rid of viruses... ie if you have ever had the virus influenza you still have it now. viruses stay dorment when your body is treated right. Sticking to the subject of the flu. This peticular virus stays dorment untill your immune system gets weak from an outside agent ie: the comon cold....

Just remember there is no way to get rid of the virus but treating your body right may help keep the virus dorment and you can spread the virus to others! :(

Mystikal,

I was diagnosed with genital warts when I was 16 - I'm 38 now. At the time the gyno said I only had a few, mostly on the labia and he froze them off.

They came back about 1 month later but I was too scared to go see the gyno and didn't see him till 6 mos later when a few of them had grown to a little smaller than a dime in width. I went to my gyno at that point and he cauterized (sp?), burned them off - I was sedated and don't remember anything but waking up.

At that time he told me that it's been his experience that after burning them off they rarely reappear, as has been the case with me.

I haven't seen any since I was 16. I don't know if it's the norm, but don't lose hope....
