HI - I live in the UK. This is the only message forum I have been able to find on Cosmetic Surgery and I see that most of the messages are US based. I noticed a few messages on the old board from this site regarding Edward Latimer Sayer (UK surgeon) and how someone had had a bad experience with him. Coincidentally, around the same time,I bought Cindy Jackson's book and saw that she said that this surgeon was the one who "made her what she is today"! He is not a member of BAAPS (one of the important criteria for choosing a surgeon in the UK) and yet Ms Jackson is recommending him! Who do you believe?

Has anyone had any procedures done with Latimer-Sayer, met him or have you any recommendations/experiences with surgery in the UK?

They all seem to have contradictory advice but the one thing I keep reading is that you must must choose a surgeon who belongs to BAAPS, has FRSC qualifications, is listed with the GMC and does NHS work. The surgeon who I was referred to by another surgeon satisfies all of these criteria, but I have noticed that well-known surgeons (well-known as they advertise and/or have been highlighted in the media) seem to dismiss this advice.

Any clues/stories/advice anyone please?

Just a few thoughts:
I'd have to ask why a surgeon doesn't meet any of the criteria you mentioned??? If he is UK trained I'd expect that he'd meet 2 out of 3 of these. (not doing NHS work is a personal choice though most would know it looks better on their resume to be affiliated with the NHS) the other 2 though are pretty important. Maybe he's foreign trained, in that case there may be other challenges as for as researching his background.

Also - just my impression - but it seems that doctors with less than stellar qualifications often seem to court media attention since it's seen as an endorsement and it gets a lot of business. Same goes for "professional patients" or consultants like Cindy Jackson who are also running a business.
