After hearing the wrist one is no good, I went to Rite Aid and bought the Omron Hem 705 Arm one. They were out of the 711, so the pharmacist recommended this. It has a print out and everything.
Anyway, I tested it against my wrist one and guess what? They were not off by very much.....The arm was 114/68 and wrist 108/68.
Am I okay with this monitor????

They should be this in the dr office! I have white coat syndrome and since I am pregnant and my readings are high in his office I bought one on my own to make sure I do not develop preeclampsia.............. :D Yes I am a NUT :bouncing:

That was a good idea. Now since you know your BP's good, you should bring the machine back! Hee hee. Or else you'll become a constant BP checker. ;)

I got it because at all of my dr appts my blood pressure is high. I never had an issue, but since I am pregnant I wanted to keep an eye on it to make sure I do not develop preeclampsia or pregnancy induced hypertension since I have clotting disorders.
I too have a blood pressure monitor and I find myself checking my BP quite often. Not good. I am 17 years old and my blood pressure lately is hangin' around 125/65, is that okay? Cause it seems I get around there a lot (119-128/60-75). I am thinking it may go up around 130s due to my apprehension, but I can't get myself to believe that enough to put the monitor up for good.
I want to know what's normal.. Is it _normal_ for a teen to have blood pressure in the 130s sometimes (even when he/she doesn't feel all that apprehensive at the time)? Is it _normal_ for it to go up to like 140s when you're worried (stomache crunching)... or.. should it always be within good ranges all the time (except for during/shortly after exercise, of course) for a healthy individual? I am worried about my BP a lot. I just want it to be good and when it's not <=120 when I test, I get upset.
I don't think there has been a day I haven't had a _good_ reading (<120/<80), but for some reason, that just isn't enough to keep from testing daily. :(
Sorry for the venting.

naes,
Your numbers sound just fine. Nature gave us the ability to raise our BP easily when we needed to get more nourishment into our cells quickly. That's why we need only be concerned with the "relaxed" readings.

Your BP is great. My BP is usually in the 150's/90's due to apprehension. For me, 130's/80's is a very good pressure, when I can get it that low. And I'm only 27.
Thanks for replying.
Perhaps lack of exercise is why my blood pressure is a _little_ higher than a normal teens. So, I am going to try to get on a good exercise routine and stick with it for a long while to see how it benefits me.
Thanks again.

At your age, the diastolic pressure is the true determinator. The systolic is the one that rises the most with apprehension. And in your case, and in my case, that's certainly true.
Man, when I can get mine under 140/90, I jump for joy! When I was your age, my readings were 160/95 due to apprehension. So your numbers are fine!
