Has anyone had any breathing problems AFTER a rhinoplasty, where your nasal function was worse? I've heard some horror stories about that.

My own experience has been that I breathe better than ever after my last rhinoplasty. It would certainly be terrible if you were breathing worse after surgery. I can at least say that it shouldn't happen!

:confused: I had rhinoplasty 3 years ago and had to have another op 12 months after, I now suffer from runny nose, breathing problems, and constantly feel bunged up, its terrible as it effects everything you do.

I had a rhinoplasty done by a world-renowned, top surgeon on the field, and I was left with serious breathing problems. One side of my nose is almost completely defunct, while the other side is also hard to breathe through. Know that breathing impairment is a very serious complication of rhinoplasty, and it can really decrease quality of life.

I am currently searching for a doctor with expertise in revision rhinoplasty, particularly in restoring breathing function. Please [ removed ] or post if you can help. Thank you so much!

How long should you have to wait after the surgery to be able to breath again??

You should not have to wait long - once the packing is taken out and the bleeding and swelling have subsided, you should be able to breathe. I was breathing great within 4 days. :)

hmmmm, I am 13 days post op and can barely move any air at all. However, I had drain tubes in the first 7 days. I still have ton of swelling tho. I can't wait to breath again!!!

I am beginning to wonder if my procedure was different than most. Recovery has been nothing like I've heard or seen on those medical shows. I had a very strange splint (one that I still have to wear three hours a day) and I am far more swollen than anyone I've seen have to surgery. I had a septorhinoplasty to correct injuries I sustained in an accident.

In my septo-rhino surgery the doctor did not used the packing. I could not breathe at all for about 3-4 days after surgery. Then I could breath only from one side. The side I could not breath was the same side I could not breath before surgery due to the deviated septum I had. So what happened after the surgery the septum deviated again. I had to wait 3 months to do surgery again and fix the septum. Had no problems after the second surgery, I breath fantastic from both sides now. :)

I recently did a search for my daughters rhinoplasty which she had last July. The docs i spoke with or read about mentioned the same technique which was to break the bones in the side of the nose after shaving a bump to get the triangular look. the doctor I chose was the one who said that technique often causes breathing problems, especially in people with thin noses, which my daughter had. He gave us several alternatives for treatment describing the pros and cons of each. I had a lot of faith in him and often have wondered what would have happened if i had chosen a "one technique fits all" surgeon over this one who offered options tailored to the persons nasal structure. My daughters nose turned out very well and she has no breathing problems.

Hi Elle. Believe it or not, I have had a revision with him, and it did not improve my breathing at all. Did you have serious breathing impairment after your first surgery, and did Toriumi fix it? I understand how complicated this surgery is, and I still trust that Toriumi is a good doctor. I have thought about having another consultation with him and seeing if he could either help me or recommend someone or some procedure that may help me.

Do you have any recommendations of what I should do? And can you tell me more about why you had a revision? Thank you so much.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I had a revision with Dr. Toriumi to correct asthetic problems, not functionality. But my breathing has been better since the surgery - that's at least some of why I feel like my nose is finally what it should be. It looks better AND works better. You should definitely see Dr. Toruimi about your breathing problems. He has always seemed very concerned about how well I am breathing in my follow-up appointments. I can't say for sure what he would say and I obviously don't know anything about your particular case but it certainly seems worth checking out. Best of luck.

I came here because I actually needed help regarding the same question. My mom is getting some sort of work done on her nose to fix a breathing problem because (not really sure about the details) there is some sort of block or condition shes had for years, and while shes at it shes actually going to get the rhinoplasty as well. What should she expect in terms of recovery? Will the operation actually work like its supposed to? I mean, some of the testimonials are freaking me out, and I cant really tell her anything because her surgery is tomorrow, but What does everybody think about this?
