Hi guys,
I have discovered that Jtu91952 and myself have episodes of profuse sweating that comes on suddenly. If you are experiencing the same and are on hypertensive medication, please reply and include the names of the meds you are taking. We would really like to get to the bottom of this. Thanks

DANGER:
If you are taking any diuretics like HCTZ or chlorthalidone, your blood volume is kept at a safe minimum (one hopes) to keep BP down. If you add heat stress and excessive sweating you can dehydrate easily. I almost keeled over a couple week after HCTZ, unbearable heat and humidity and THEN a half hour in the gym's steam room...I thought I wasn't going to make it out of the locker room...felt awful for hours...heart rate up to 100, BP down to 90/60.
I ate some salty pretzels, orange juice and 500 mg Mg++ with several glasses of water but still recovery was slow.

I think that may have been what happened to me. My pulse was 102 and my bp climbed to 202/100. My glucose was 81, and sweat was poring off me. It looked like sombody threw buckets of water on me. The temp was 85 and very humid. It tried walking 1.5 miles from the bank.

I was playing tennis 3 times a week before the meds (Atenolol & Lotrel). Now it is like 93 outside & I feel much hotter than ever on the meds. If I go outside, I can't take it for more than a few minutes. I also get this nice flush from the meds. as well.

What is HTCZ? are these meds why I hate hot showers and hot days? I dont understand this; its pretty depressing if Im under 30 and already have to pick and choose my days to play softball?

Hctz stands for hydrochlorthazide. It is a diurectic(water pill. It is used to control bp.
