I have been hairy all my life. My facial hair bothers me the most. I used wax to get rid of 'em but I am just so tired of doing it and am thinking of getting rid of the unwanted hair professionally. What is really irritating is that they grow "spiky". It is so embarrasing when someone touches my chin and feel a spike in there. I so hate the feeling. It feels and looks like I have a mustache. What sort of laser hair removal do you recommend?

Electrolosis (sorry if its spelled wrong.)is a technique that gets rid of hair permanently. That may be an option you should consider.

I agree. Electrolysis (sp.??) sounds like the way to go.

i suggest having it removed by laser..it can be a bit expensive..but its worth it..........

Laser hair removal is the fastest. It is more expensive but cannot be done on all hair colors. If you have light hair, including gray or white, it probably won't work. I am a blonde and when I went for my consultation was told that my hair is too light. Electrolysis was what they recommended instead. I have had one treatment and will continue with it until all these embarrassing hairs are gone from my chin and lip. It really isn't as painful as I had been led to believe. Check it out.

I've treid electrolysis and laser and neither one has worked for me. Electrolysis is kind of painful and if you have alot of hair, like I do, it can take a many many sessions.
I have dark hair and fair skin, which is ideal for laser, but I didn't see any permanant results after 3 treatments so I stopped cause it cost so much :(
Have you had medical tests done to determine if there is some underlying hormonal issue for your hair? If not that would be the first step for you to take.
Being hairy sucks!

Thank you for all those who responded.
I have not had any medical tests to see why I am hairy. I am leaning towards the laser hair removal but am uncertain which one is the safest and most effective. It seems like I will need to do more research on this one.
I understand it takes about 3-5 treatments before one can see an improvement....I have thick and dark hair (chin+upper lip) and over here I think one session costs $250. Does that sound about right? I am fr the East Coast.

Unique, I am in the DC area and it cost me $300 eeach treatment. But after not seeing any results after 3 treatments I couldn't afford it anymore. I hope it works well for you.

I had my first (laser hair removal) treatment for my underarms last Sunday. I have 5 more treatments to go.
6 treatments costs about USD250. I think it's much cheaper here in Manila than in the U.S.. I'm crossing my fingers. Hope these treatments will work for me. :)

I tried the lasers and all they did was pigment my fair skin. I was really pissed off after spending nearly $1,000 on something that didn't work. I've been seeing an electrologist once a week for almost a year now ($65 an hour) and I've had so much improvement. I also found out I have PCOS and was put on Yasmin and Avandia to lower my androgen levels. Almost all the hair under my chin is gone now and I hope to be done by the new year. And it's permanant!

With the amount of hair you describe I would recommend seeing a doctor; it sounds as if you might have a hormone imbalance.

I use surgicream for my facial hair. It lasts about a month. It's a dipiltory cream. I do go and get my eyebrows done with wax at the salon.
I suffer from major hair problems too. I hate all the arm hair. I could probably shave my legs everday but choose to save my legs some pain.
Good luck. You can find the cream at walmart.

Which surgi cream did you use? How do you use it? When I used it the hair won't come off? Thank you!!!

OKay, just had to go and get the tubes. It comes in a mostly white box but the letters are in blue. It says SURGI-CREAM THE PROFESSIONAL DEPILATORY.
I buy it at Walmart. It comes with a finishing balm that you should use afterwards. It is the kind for facial hair. They also make a kind for bikini area as well, haven't found it though.
It says you can leave it on between 5-8 minutes and then you use a wet wash cloth to take it off. You shoudl dampen your face first before you apply it by the way.
They five minutes didn't work for me. I had to use the full eight.
Good luck. Let me know how it works for you.

How much surgi cream do you have to put on your face? And do you just rub it with a wet towel. When I first did it, it won't come off and I kept rubbing it and my face turned red. Thank you for replying.

You will want to put alot on. Use your fingers to apply it. I just use enough to not be able to see your upper lip. So pretty thick. I used a wet wash cloth to wash it off after the 8 minutes and then i just used my hands to wash the rest off.
Make sure to apply the balm afterwards.
