Which is more accurate in distinguishing complex kidney cysts? I have heard some debate in regards to this and was hoping someone could answer. Thanks!

I have had several ultrasounds to keep checking the progression of my polycystic kidney disease, but have also had a ct,with dye,to get some better definition in certain areas.I have been monitored almost yearly since Dx back in 1999,by just having the plain old ultrasounds.I guess a combo of the two would be your best bet.Talk with your doc or better yet, call the radiology dept where these tests are planning on being done. They might be able to give you better clarification. It also depends on just exactly what the doc is trying to get the best look at.Good luck to you and I hope things turn out okay for you.marcia

Hi! My daughter has 3 renal cysts and they never show up on an ultrasound. They do however show up clearly on a CT/contrast. She had a CT w/out contrast friday night and the cysts were faintly showing but several stones were seen in both kidneys. She has passed 34 stones in the last 4 yrs. She was on Allopurinol, Pottasium Citrate, and HCTZ but is no longer taking them. Nothing changed for her as far as getting stones so it was futile to continue to take meds. Please read my reply to TYLER7 from Fannie Yoder. I am looking for some info. Would you know anything about this? I have done extensive searches on renal stones and cysts. Thank you. [ removed ]
