View Full Version : Trying to stop!

As you all know trying to quit Hydro is a hard thing. I cant believe how fast this has crept up on me! I have battled with a mild addiction for about 3 years. Im currently taking 30mgs of Hydro at night (3 norco's) It feels like yesterday when i ws taking 1 or 2 to get the same feeling and pain relief. I want to stop, but when night time roles around again, Im bored and in a little pain or uncomfortable, I reach for them. I told my wife last time that about the whole addiction thing and she was very supportive about me stopping. I told her I would and I did for a few months, then BANG, i ordered more. I start school in 2 weeks and wan to be clean. I do not concentrate at all on this. I am a HEAVY exercise freak. I run, bike swim every day, for real. I just dont feel good doing it anymore and want that back! I have logged on to this board at least 4-5 different times in the last three years.
What advice can anyone give to make this stick! I crave it at night and stress brings the urge even more!

I have a script for Lorazapam. Will that help or is that just prolonging the addiction. I really want to flush them RIGHT NOW, but am very scared to do so.

Honest words will help. Thanks for listening and KEEP ME HERE! This place is good :)

Flush those benzos down the toilet. If you are an exercise freak then that will help with the hydro withdrawals. Get rid of the poison.

If you are ready to stop using and you feel that you can get over them in time to get to school, flush them.....however if you feel that you are not going to be able to get things together before school maybe it would be good to discuss your addiction with a Dr..

well I dumped them this morning with my wife. All of them --secret stash and all. Scary feeling but it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I guess the tough times are to come. How long and what should I expect. I feel fine right now. I took approx. 20-30 mgs every other day. any help would be great. Exercise and H2O is my plan of attack.

Good luck to you. I'll keep reading your posts to see where I think I may have something beneficial to say.

I had a habit of 30 to 40 10's a day. I didn't care for Norco's. I like the 500's or 650's. You know, the real liver killers.

I have been on Suboxone for 90 days and haven't much thought about those hydros. I took them for nearly 10 years too. Suboxone has been a life saver to me and a lot of people on this board. Try to read some of the Suboxone threads.

You should be able to handle the cold turkey. Stock up on cold water, Ensure shakes, and lots of rest. Clonidine blood pressure patches will help. You'll be sick for a few days. Hot showers help. Walk(don't run) cuz you don't want to stress your heart out. At your dose there is no use getting on the Sub....no use drug-hopping. Just quit the S*&# and be done with it. Good job with the toilet!

expect insommnia,diahrea,cold/hot flashes, lethargy, runny nose, aches and pains in joints, muscles and bones.....it will be intense for three to five days....after the third day or so you should peak and be rid of the crap in your system and every day it will get a tiny bit better....sleep wont come back for some time...it is usually the last sysmptom to disapear but can take a month or so...opiates rob you of natural sleep......i had zero luck with over the counter stuff to help...get invovled in a/a or n/a...people think they dont need it but they do,trust me....chef

Dude !!! If you are playing golf then you should be able to get through the physical part with relative ease. The psychological part(depression, brain funk) is difficult. Just be ready for it. Don't seek out other drugs or anti-depressants cuz that'll be more problems. Just continue to exercise and stay hydrated. Try to eat regularly. It sounds like you are doing very, very well. You might want to make some meetings as a safeguard. Good job so far.

Day 4 down and its been ok. For all of you that are going to try this, I feel that the mental dependancy is way worse than the Physical. A little jittery and alot of bowel probs, but I still shot 2 over par today on the links :) . So wish me luck from here. I am SOOOO glad that I flushed the pills, b/c I went looking tonight hard and would have taken them if they were there. FLUSHEM if you GOTEM is my new motto!! Keep the kind words coming.

Good going! Meetings will help with that neurotic crap you are going through. Jesus...in the shape I was in I would've begged you to beat me in the head with your 3 iron.

well its day 5 and all is well. The stomach is doing a little better. I cant sleep very well. I thought I would have a harder time falling asleep, BUT its the opposite, I cant go back to sleep when I wake up. I think that is worse, then your left lying in bed alone. anyway, i thought I would check in. I exercised hard again yesterday. wish me luck.

Congrats on your day 5. Doesn't the intense exercise help so much? I know it helped me tremondously while I was in WDs and I still love it. The ability to breathe without the norcos while exercising helps a great deal, huh? I have to agree with Windysan. Dude, if you shot 2 over par, you are doing pretty good during these WDs. I would barely be able to concentrate...

Good luck in your new semester at school. My GPA dropped while I was on 25-35 hydros a day...

You're doing great. Take care.

Hi from Cali

Thanks for the kind words --my tummy took a turn for the worse tonight. He are having a huge labor day party and my stomach wont allow me to drink or eat anything. Severe cramping. I took a few alkaseltzers and ate some bread and it helped a bit. I hope this goes away soon. Only a few days until school.

Just a quick update -- im feeling great and school is great --have th URGE every now and then, but pass that by with exercise or a little (not alot) to drink. Found a pill last week and took it, but felt remorse and told my wife. Thanks for the replies

Meddguy,
VERY proud of you. Keep up the good work. Isent it amazing when your spouse is beside you? Wow! That is the best part.

Windysan,
When you said....

in the shape I was in I would've begged you to beat me in the head with your 3 iron.

I almost fell off my chair laughing. That was great. I sure am familiar with that feeling.

Love ya,

Sara
