instead of the regular urge that i used to get when i had to pee, now i get a dull/strong pain in my abdomen (in the morning, after not going to the bathroom for several hours, it's pretty bad!!!), and occasionally (not sure if this is related) a slight pinch in my right middle torso/waist. has anyone experienced this? does it sound like my kidneys are failing? if so, and if i'm not beyond help, any alternative suggestions (i try not to use prescription drugs)... i'm very scared... thanks for reading

Does this pain occur everytime you need to pee? Does it happen when you need to have a bowel movement? Do you see any blood in your urine? The pain could be many things. If you see blood, you should go to the doctor because you could have kidney stones. Drink alot of water and dont eat foods high in calcium and salt. Kidney stones form in the kidneys and obstruct the flow of urine. If its small enough, they will pass through without much pain. If its bigger though, they aggrevate the wall of the ureters and cause pain. See you doctor. let me know how it goes.

hi - thanks for responding... yes, i think the pain occurs every time i need to pee, or at least if i wait too long in between bathroom visits (i'd say less than 3 hours) - but it does not happen when i need to move my bowels, and there is no blood... the only symptom is my mid to lower stomach feels stretched from the inside - it is sore, dull and intense... and then there's that occasional pinching... i used to have this about a year ago, but then it went away, and only just now came back. i have no clue of anything i'm doing differently. i really don't want to go to the doctor for this - be embarrassed, get poked and prodded, just to have my pretty ignorant doc tell me she can't seem to find anything wrong...

She is a doctor and there is no need to be embarrassed. Its better to do something right away and set your mind at ease. Its worth getting embarrassed over that. Its your health. :)

Try eating very little salt and calcium for a few weeks and see if it subsides a little.

This sounds like you may have a urinary tract infection (uti). I just started a course of Cipro anitbiotic for a uti yesterday. This is only the second time in my life that I have had one, but the feeling is so unmistakeable. A dull sort of abdominal pain with a feeling of pressure or fullness from the inside along with that pinched/twisted feeling, like there is a clamp being put on you. It would be worse after not peeing for a long time or overnight because of the accumulation of bacteria in your unemptied bladder. Do you also feel the need to go to the bathroom more frequently, only to get there and have very little pee come out, yet you still feel as if your bladder isn't empty? Pardon this simple suggestion if you already know you have a more serious kidney condition that I was not aware of as I wrote this post.
