My four hour surgery is tomorrow morning at ten.. Ten years of worry and hiding my smile will all be over tomorrow.. I still have to wait about a year for the retainer to do its work but the jagged mess on my teeth and in the back of my mouth will be gone.. I heard when you have bad teeth like this and and you get all out of your mouth that people can really tell a difference in their health.. They have said they feel healthier.. Have any of you recognized this...Does anyone have any last min advice.. I would probably be more nervous than I am right now but he has me on 500mg of penicillin four times a day and it is not making my stomach feel to well... Has anyone else had a problem w/ this.. The nurse is calling today w/ pre op and I am going to ask if I can drop it to three today.. The bad thing is I have to take it seven more days after the surgery.. I don't won't this feeling anymore.. It is like a starving feeling..Thanks for listening/reading.. Needed to talk about it I guess.. Wish me luck..

Congrats on finally making it! You will be SO happy with your new smile I'm sure.
The Pen. can make your tummy a bit wierd - this is just one of the properties of drugs  . It may help to eat something very bland with it if you are not already. Also, it will probably get better the longer you are on it. Often, the first couple days while youre on a new med and your body is adjusting to it you may feel sick. If it continues, ask if you maybe could get some antinausea meds (or just go get some motion sickeness medication) or maybe try a different antibiotic.
Lots of people do feel better after taking care of a troubled mouth. If you have an active infection, your body is always in its defensive mode trying to cure itself. This does make you feel bad sometimes - much the same reason you feel bad sometimes after getting a vaccination. Your body is in overdrive trying to create antibodies and fight the infection, so it stays run down. Without the infection and a good clean mouth, your body doesn't have to work this hard. It really does make a difference. Also, just the self confidence you will gain will be a big boost!
I hope everything goes very smoothly for you...

You could ask for a shot of Penicillin instead... I heard that usually doesn't make your stomach hurt as bad. It has to go in your derriere, but if you're knocked out for the surgery, they could give it to you then! :)

Good luck tomorrow...I have been reading your posts and I know you have been waiting a long time...Glad its finally here and you can get it over with..The penicillin also made me nauseated and sick to my stomach...I was glad to stop taking it...Instead of 4 x a day, I cut it down to 3....Im sure you will feel much better overall after the teeth are out...I had an abcessed tooth for almost 9 yrs! It had opened a fistula on my gum and it would drain off and on, so I never had any pain, etc in the beginning....I went to many different doctors and dentists and endos, but they all just let it go! I finally went to an oral surgeon 2months ago and he couldnt believe they all just passed it off as nothing...He said it was an active infection and I would feel so much better after it was out and he was right....I used to be nauseated, dizzy, chills, low grade fever, etc off and on for no real reason....Now im sure it was from that...
Post and let us know how u made out!

Hi Lee - I'm still here.
Good luck on your surgery tomorrow. To answer one of your ??'s, I think you feel healthier because you have FINALLY taken control of the situation, and that in a way makes you feel more powerful and less frightened. You are also so glad to get to stop worrying about it. Also, with bad teeth and gums, you are tired of the bad taste in your mouth, and no matter how much you brush, you can't quite clean it all very well, and you know it. I think my sinuses are better, too. So yes, I do think you feel healthier.
We'll be thinking of you tomorrow - I hope you feel better in the tummy with your meds - and let us know how you are, (when you can).
Take care,
Debbi

Good luck to you. It's already tomorrow in some parts of the world so you may have already had your surgery depending where you are. If so, I hope it went well. It's all uphill from here. Things will get better and better.
You might ask your dentist for an alternative to the penicillin. Some people can tolerate one drug but not another formulation even tho they do the same thing. So they may have a different one which won't make you feel so sick.
I noticed fewer people answering when i returned from my trip. I think a lot of people go on vacation at the end of the summer. They'll be back soon.

Marti!!!!
So glad to see you back....
I just asked Sae about you in a previous post several days ago....
haven't been on the boards in several days - we've been dealing
with hurricane Frances here in South Florida - thankfully we
weathered it fairly well in my neck of the woods....
Hope you had a nice vacation!
Talk to you soon.
