I guess I'm just looking for your stories & support. My brother just turned 34. He has had diabetes since the age of 21/2. He has had a stroke, heart attacks, kidney failure,5 bypass open heart surgery,...& the list just goes on & on. He's been on dialisis for about a year now. My family means everything in the world to me & my heart breaks seeing how much he's been hurting for such a very long time now. I went to the University of Minnesota & had all of my testing done so that I could donate a kidney & possibly give him even just a little bit of his life back. Two days ago I was told he was cleared to have the transplant!! The surgery will be Oct.19! We just have to pray he stays well enough until then. The longest he's stayed out of the hospital is about three weeks. He always ends up back in because his stomach is paralized from the diabetes so it's very hard for him to digest anything that he eats. They have talked about a procedure where a stimulator is put into the stomach to help digest his food, but the doctor that will be doing the transplant says to wait until after the surgery because because things may start working on their own once he receives the new kidney. I would love to here some of your encouraging stories to help get us through this! It would mean the world to me!!

All I can say here, is God Bless You! I am crying inside right now, you are a beautiful person. I wish I had had that opportunity for my brother. My brother also had diabetes but from AGent Orange in Viet Nam. He died in February of this year from Chronic Renal Failure. If I'd known earlier to deal with those screwed up doctors at the VA Hospital in Danville, Illinois, I would have set it all up and donated one of my kidneys also to my brother. But at age 52, he was called elsewhere and my heart broke. Not a word from the doctors until it was too late and they just threw him into an ambulance, not equipped to take care of his illness to die. He died 20 mintues outside of the VA Hospital on his way to Chicago. They had 9 days to transport him and let him lie there like a bunch of idiot doctors until it was too late.
God Bless YOu again for doing this for your brother and I will pray that your brother, God willing, stays alive for your kidney.

Andrea,
I am so very sorry that you lost your brother. Your letter touched my heart. I'm sure you would have been there in a heartbeat had you been given the same chance that I am. We too have come very close to losing my brother John. You very much know what my family has been going through. I just want to say that I'm sure even now your brother knows how very much you loved him. Your in my prayers.

CURE : AIDS, CANCER, KIDNEY,& DIABETES
Hi,
I have discovered an entirely new system of medication to treat blood cancer (All types of Leukemia).
I have treated and cured my own sister, who was a declared patient of B-Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia ( B-CLL ). I have got all her relevant Laboratory Reports.
She is perfectly fine and has resumed her normal work schedule.
Further more, unlike the much publicized chemotherapy, My medication has simply no side effects or after effects. Rather it helps considerably in strengthening the patient's IMMUNITY SYSTEM.
Apart from Leukemia ( Blood Cancer), I have been successfully treating and being able to CURE Kidney Failure, by bringing down the creatinine to its normal level.
Also, My Diabetic patients are able to enjoy sweets ( Rassogullas) without needing to bother about human insuline....And Even without human insulin, they are able to maintain their sugar level normal.
If you think that what ever I have written is NOT a joke, Than feel free to get into touch with me.
Since I am not following any existing system of Medication, I am not looking for any kind of certification or recognition from any organization what-so-ever. It is my own discovery and I am able to bring out the DESIRED POSITIVE RESULTS...
On this ground, if I am being harassed, than I am not at all interested in treating anybody.
I have discovered some thing very useful for the humanity, and ready to serve with my fairest intentions, but NOT at the cost of being harassed by any body on earth.
I am Bangalore(India), based ordinary civilian. Please feel free to get into touch with me, if you feel positive towards my statements and me.
Shekhar Gemini,
I appreciate your letter, but in all honesty I am somewhat of a skeptic. Thanks anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if you did have a cure and a natural one from where you come from, but good luck trying to convince the U.S. Our doctors and labs and pharmaceutical drug companys don't really want to cure anyone.

I donated a kidney to my 24 y.o. son this past May. I have to say this was one of the greatest gifts that I have ever been privileged to be a part of. We had our transplant at Mass General in Boston, MA and the success of the surgery is due to the excellent care and support we had from the brilliant and caring staff there.
I had some trepidation about the surgery but I will tell you it was in my estimation not as big a deal as I was imagining it to be.
I am no kid, I am almost 54, 50 lbs overweight from quitting smoking (for the surgery) and a newly diagnosed thyroid problem, and I would do it again tomorrow. I love my son with all my heart, and what a joy to give him life a second time !

Hi Patty, what brought me originally to the boards was my surgery for a kidney stone I had in my right kidney. Kidney's are a very sensitive subject for me to think about or talk about because of my brother. But then I saw your post and wanted to comment on it, hope you don't mind. I just wish I could have done the same for my brother. So I'm proud of you. Also, your story brought memories for me about a girlfriend of a girlfriends who was sick for a year and they didn't even diagnose her cancer until way after a year and she asked her brother to donate bone marrow and he wouldn't do it for her. He's apparently a Jehova Witness, but the church said he could do it and he still won't. Sad isn't it?

Andrea,
Don't feel pressured to talk about thing's that are uncomfortable for you. I certainly don't want to have you hurting. I really appreciate you writing to me. Whether you realize it or not,...your words have helped me a lot,...thank you for that! Your story about the cancer patient is horrible!! How can you be human & not have a heart??? I just will never understand. When I was in grade school I had a girlfrieind who's family turned Jehovas witness & that was part of their belief. They could recieve,...but not give. I don't know if that is still how it is today, but I still remember how sad it seemed to live that way. I just remember what I saw. Yes, It is sad. Patty

He had Glomerial Nephritis...(leaky kidneys). He was diagnosed 5 years ago when he woke in the am with a swollen face, and extremities. They did a biopsy and found the kidneys were leaking. Blood and protein were found in the urine. He was able to hold on and had 70% function for 3 plus years then it plummeted to 13% and he started on dialysis in December 2003. One of the ideas that was talked about was the possibility of untreated strep ! We have no family history of kidney problems or diabetes, so we are baffled about how this came to be.
This is all new to me since my son's diagnosis, but I am now an organ donor advocate. I never realized the number of people waiting and dying for this miracle of donation.

Hi, I am new here to this forum. I have been reading post for a few weeks but haven't had the courage to post myself. But I felt I needed to post to this one.
Pjpeters, what a wonderful person you are to do that for your brother.
Fatnana, I am so sorry to hear about your brother. What got my attention was when you said he had leaky kindeys. My son is 13 years old, he started showing signs of kidney problems in Nov. of last year. His symptoms started as your brothers did. Swollen eyes and then face. He has large amounts of blood and 11,000 of protein in urine. To this day we do not have a diagnosis. He has had 2 kidney biopsies. At first they felt is it was post-infectious GN as you stated about your brother. They have ruled out that it was caused from Strep. We have a wonderful Dr. he has contacted many different Dr. in the US. He tells us he doesn't know if Cody has Post-infectious GN or MPGN. All the Drs. that have looked at his blood levels and urine say they have never seen this before. I guess he has a few low complement levels that don't go with these conditions. We have one more Dr. looking at Cody's biopsies and lab work. He is a specialist in MPGN. If it turns out that he has MPGN then we are going to try Plasmaphersis. What has been happening is that they can't prove which disease he has. They tell me time will tell. Wait to see if he gets better or worse, then we will know for sure. He is on 7 different medications. My heart hurts!!
Thank you so much for listening. You guys just sounded like caring people, I have posted on other forums that the people weren't very nice. I guess that is why it took me so long to post. Thanks again.

I'm so glad you decided to post! Maybe someone here will have some answers for you,....or even just be here for you when you need someone to talk to. I understand what you mean when you said "my heart hurts". The difference between "myself" & "you" is that it's your son, not your brother. I too am a mother of two boys. The hurt you feel for your child goes deeper than any hurt a person could ever know. I too have been there. Stick with us,...we'll help in anyway we possibly can! My prayers are with you & your son that they'll figure this all out very soon! You'll get through this! ANYTIME you need to talk ,....I'm here,...just as many others are!! Patty

Thank you both so much. It really helps to learn from people that have been there. Our Dr. is wonderful, I couldn't ask for a better one.
As of now Cody has 100% kidney function. In fact it has improved since Nov. which makes no sense to the Dr. He keeps telling me that Cody is writing his own book and isn't following the rules. We just wait to see what happens next which is the hardest part. We now need to start looking at taking him off the prednsone early because he has stopped growing. It seems to be one thing after another.
Again Thank you so much for your replys. I am so gald I have someone who truly understands. I have so much family and they try, but they don't quite get it.
Sorry about the mix up on your brother/son. I see one of you have the name Patty and what is the other (if you don't mind) I get so confused on these things.

I just joined this forum because I'm been just starting to face some of the more serious problems associated with chronic renal problems. My sister has decided to be living donor, which is so amazingly generous that it is very difficult for me to even fully understand. I don't need the transplant yet, as my function is staying pretty steady, but she is there when I need her. Your story is a blessing and I will pray for you and especially your brother during this waiting period and subsequent healing period.

Hi Jan!
Think of it this way,.....if she were in YOUR shoes, wouldn't you do the same thing for her??? I bet you would in a heartbeat! It would be so much more difficult for me to understand someone "not" doing it. Plain & simple,....she loves you just as I love my brother. I am so very happy for you that she's there. The other night when I talked to my brother I was so surprized when he said how worried he is about me doing this for him. Well of course I started crying & told him that I love him so much that I'd do this over & over & over for him if I could. Not a thought in my mind! I too send my prayers to you & your sister. Be strong & you'll get through this. Please stay with us & let us know how things are going,...ok?? I'm so glad that you wrote. I just read your post.I wish I had read it much sooner! How are Jamie & Vicky??? I'm praying that everything went as planned. Please write again & let me know. Our surgery is coming up on Tuesday 10-19. Today we met with My brothers surgeon. My brother John just turned 34 in May. (So close to Jamies age.) The risks are so very high with my brothers other complications. He has severe vascular disease which may make the transplant impossible. They have decided to open him up first to make sure there is a place to put a new kidney. I will be in another room ready & waiting when they know. He also had a valve replaced in his heart about a year & a half ago. That gives them concern because of how much longer he'll have to be put under doing it this way, but that was the only option given. They don't want to take my kidney & THEN find out it can't be given to him. Because of the vascular disease they also take the risk of him losing the use of his left leg. All of this news was just so overwhelming that I could hardly speak. John kept falling asleep so I'm really not sure just how much he comprehended. He just feels so
horrible all the time that he never really says too much about anything. When the Doctor asked him if he still wanted to go ahead with this, all he said was 'yes'. I know people come from all over the world to this hospital because of it's reputation,...so I guess we're in the best hands possible,....right? I don't know,....we're all just feeling kind of numb right now. He's beat the odds so many times already,....I just can't see him NOT getting through this. How has this horrible disease affected your friends son?? Is he considered a "fragile" diabetic like my brother?? If you don't mind, I'd really like to hear more about your friend & son. God bless that everything turned out ok.
