Has anyone had trouble with Prescriptives makeup clogging pores or causing breakouts?

It was recommended to me, but I just want to make sure before I buy some- it's too expensive to make a mistake!!

Also, if you've used it, did you like it? Was it worth the money?

Thanks! ;)

What kind of makeup are you getting? Foundation, concealer, powder?

I was considering their foundations and possibly their powders. As for concealer... I'm hoping two layers of foundation would suffice... I don't know yet. ;)

I tried Prescriptives foundation, concealer and powder about a year ago. I didn't like the iridescent quality that the products had and it also settled into every little line on my face and needed constant touch up. When I went back to the counter to return much of what I had purchased, I was told that "No makeup is maintenance free!" I was apparently expecting too much from the makeup! So, I went back to Estee Lauder, which IS maintenance free.

i've tried prescriptives. even their lightest shade was too dark for me. it is overpriced too!

I just bought their foundation. So far, I really like it. I splurged and had them mix up a color/formula for me. It cost me $55.00, but will last up to 8 months. The other thing I really like is that as the weather warms and my face may get some tan to it, they will darken the foundation I have left.

I know someone else posted that they are too dark for them which is really strange because prescriptives is the only make-up I can find anymore that is light enough for me. I tried absolutely every brand in the lightest shade you can buy at the store when Rite-Aid started their return policy and all of them were way too dark for me. I used to use a lancome foundation but they discontinued it and although I did manage to find one from them and one from Estee Lauder (I tried all the other make-up counters as well!, but none of them came even close to being light enough) that were almost light enough both of them turned orangey on me after awhile of wearing, and they were really still too dark to begin with anyway. So I'm sort of "stuck" with prescriptives foundation or no foundation at all! I have no complaints at all, though. I use eucerin for face moisturizer and then put on the prescriptives foundation over that, just one very thin layer and it covers beautifully, lasts all day, you can't even tell I'm wearing any make-up accept that it gives me a more even skin tone and makes my freckles stand out a little less. You can always try it and return it if you don't like it, so it doesn't hurt to try. Their prices seem to be on par if not less than all the other counter foundations I tried (last time I got some it was $28, whereas most of the other brands were over $30, but then a lot of the other brands give free products with purchase and I've never seen prescriptives do that). I also haven't noticed any iridescence... I think that's just with their "magic" line? My skin is very acne prone as well as being ultra sensitive to just about everything and anything and I haven't had any problems with the prescriptives foundation which I've been using for about 3 years now. I keep looking every now and then for something else, just to have options, but I still haven't found anything else light enough for me.

emarion, btw, what foundation do you use? were you color tested when you tried the prescriptives? I know even the lightest shade if it's not the right tone for me will look too dark, but at any rate I'd love to know what you use if you have trouble finding foundation that's light enough as I do.

Oh, so they take returns? That could be a good thing...

Ihave the same problem with foundations not being light
enough for my skin. I also used a Lancome foundation and it was discontinued. I love the Lancome line but get frustrated with all the "discontinuing" they do. I now use a foundation by Estee Lauder. It's the lightest color in their "Futurist" line. I also use my foundation as my undereye concealer since all the others I tried turned yellow. I then use the Lancome
loose powder to set my makeup. It's the only face power that I can use. Sensitive skin is always a trial and error thing. When I was younger, I tried so many different lines, they didn't work, and there was no return policy. I could have sold makeup products out of my bathroom. Thank goodness for the "return policy".

cover girl continuous wear in creamy natural matches my skin PERFECTLY. however, it is not oil free and i am acne prone so i would like something else. i was a red-blue (blue-red?) when i got color matched.

Prescriptives is great. I definitely have to give their foundation a thumbs up. I am fair to medium, with very red undertones. This is the first foundation that gives me an even look. When the consultant first put it on me, I thought it was too pale. I just wasn't used to seeing my face without all the red! Remember..the point of foundation is to even out the skin tone, not to supply it with color. Blush or a bronzer should be used for that.

$55.00 is definitely more than I wanted to spend, but I am tired of looking so redfaced, or washed out. I wanted a more polished look and this stuff works. I apply a very small amount with my finger, then use a sponge to smooth it out.

Hey Rubydoo--
Yeah, I'm kind of worried about buying expensive makeup because I'm so fair, but sometimes I turn more red (not really tan) in the spring and summer, and I want this makeup to still match for my wedding in May. I'm also worried that the makeup will go bad in 5+ months if I buy it now. Do you know how long good makeup lasts? It won't get chunky and turn colors by then, will it??

By having the makeup custom blended, I have enough to last about 8 months. I have a regular bottle, then a small purse size bottle, and they gave me the remainder of the mix in the plastic bottle.

She told me that as my face gets some color from the sun, to just bring what I have back and they will reblend it for me. I live on the East Coast, so my skin will be fair until around March, when I will be outside more.

I don't find this cakey or chunky at all. I think using the sponge is a great way to smooth out any type of makeup.

Rubydoo63 -

I have the same type skin as you - fair to med. with red undertones. I had used Prescriptives before, but used the compact makeup (where you'd apply it with a sponge). I liked it, but it was a bit heavy. Which of their foundation line are you using now? I'd like to give a try....

Thanks!!

What color group do the red-blue undertones make you?? I don't know if I have any. The Prescriptives lady told me I was yellow-orange.
Other makeup brands use "warm", "cool", and "neutral"... which of those would yellow-orange be?
I've also heard of people matching their skin tones with seasons, like spring, summer, etc. I wonder how I know which season I am??
So confusing!

(But fun. :))

Hellokitty:

It is liquid foundation - the bottle just says Custom Blend. The amount of moisturizer in it is based on how dry your skin in. She mixed up a batch and applied it to my fact, but then had to add more blue to it. It was very interresting to watch. Anyway...it is liquid that I really like. Don't judge it by how the consultant applies it - they tend to go very heavy on the makeup!

I've been using Prescriptives Virtual Skin make up for about a month now and I totally love it. I've had so many problems with my sensitive prone to break-out skin and I have to be very careful with what I use. The Prescriptives hasn't irritated my skin at all, the colour match is perfect and it lasts all day. I did buy the foundation brush which I think makes coverage more even and perfect - I definitely recommend trying their make-up as they have a great range of colours and can custom blend.

Dublin- did you get yours custom blended or did you match a premixed color? Also, how much did the foundation brush set you back? Thank you!!!!! :)
