View Full Version : A question for Billy and another about anxiety meds

Billy, How did your experience start? How long did it take you to fully recover if you even fully recovered at all? Did it ever return?

Did you also experience that kind of overpowering feeling when looking at say a store shelf or tile floor? I hear that it is because your brain is temporarily relying more than normal on your vision for balance. Do you know anything about this?

also.... just like everyone else i was fortunate enough to also acquire anxiety with this fun little dizzyness. I have been just trying to beat it by reading books and stuff but I was thinking about trying a medication, but my doctor said that the medication can cause dizziness :o Has anyone else experience this? Does the medication really work that well? It would be nice to just take it and be done with this whole thing but im worrying about the side affects of being dizzy again and also worrying about the supposed suicidal thoughts that antidepressants can cause. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Hi Walty,

The meds can make you feel dizzier but only for a day or two. After that it was all uphill for me. Wish I had done something about it on the med front from day 1...it would have stopped me from sinking as far as I did. I had suicidal thoughts before the meds but definitely nothing afterwards. Suicidal thoughts are a result of intense mental anguish (I found out the hard way)...you just can't bare feeling that bad anymore sort of thing and so it happens as a normal response if that can be called normal....anyway, the AD stops all of the crappy anxiety misery and you soon regain your mental stamina and have LOADS more energy to deal with this mess - that was my experience anyway. Sure don't like promoting meds but the alternative in some cases is far worse.

Good luck......S

i completely disagree. i had a terrible experience on meds! for some people meds are great so i wouldn't tell you to not explore that option, but be careful. antidepressants can cause "obsessive thoughts" which are basically suicidal thoughts and/or thoughts of hurting other people. i would see a pen on the table and for an instant think of stabbing someone. scared the cr*p out of me because i would never in a million years do anything like that. it more common than most people think. i was on Paxil, Effexor and Wellbutrin SR and reacted badly to all of them. i also had terrible insomnia and burning feelings under my skin. the dizziness was about the same. if you think they might help you, i say give them a try, but make sure your on a low enough dosage that if you need to come off them quickly you can. hopefully you'll have a better experience than i did.

It looks like the question of whether or not to take an antidepressant or any drug for that matter is totally individual. Drugs have a different effect on everyone it seems but I made my decision based on clinical trial outcomes which showed the following for Celexa. These were the only significant diffs and in most cases vanish after a few weeks (which I found):

Celexa (n = 1083) vs Placebo (n = 486)

increased sweating 11.3% / 7.4%

tremor 8.8% / 5.8%

somnolence 17.9% / 10.3%

diarrhea 7.9% / 4.7%

dry mouth 20% / 12.6%

nausea 21.4% / 13.2%

ejaculation disorder 5.9% / 1.0 %

Suicide attempt 1.3% / 1.2% (no difference).
