I have a problem. Involuntarilly, my lungs or diaphram will contract and force a hiccup-like noise out of my mouth. Sometimes they are extremely painful. It is sort of like a deep burp and a hiccup at the same time. Each time it happens is not like the last. They are different and it seems to happen more when i am sitting still or after i have been drinking liquids. My aunt said they are bronchial spasms, but i have never been to the doctor about it because it is kind of embarassing. I thought it was from years ago when i was bulimic that all the stomach acid had eroded my esophogus and i had air bubbles in my throat. I dont really know the right diagnosis, so if anyone has any information for me, please [ removed ]

Thank you

Acid reflux disease (GERD, gastroesophageal reflux) can cause exactly what you're describing. Your past history of bulimia also puts you at more of a risk for this type of problem. Don't be embarassed about seeing the doctor, a trial of Nexium or Prevacid most certainly won't hurt. It may or may not be acid reflux though, that's why you should see the doctor about it.

Take care. :)

Thank you very much for your advice. I have thought about getting a trial of Nexium. It helps when someone else confirms what I was thinking. I really appreciate it.
