Hello! I am 26 years old. I've suffered from depression since I was 18. I'm currently taking prozac. What I'm starting to notice is my depression worsens about 10x when I'm PMSing. I know that having your period brings on mood swings. It seems mine are always soooooooooo bad. I have no desire to do anything. I'm very lethargic. I feel worn out. I feel that I'm more emotional and sad than I should be having my period. Does anyone who suffers from depression feel this? If so, please give me some advice. I'm going to make an appointment with my gyno. There has to be something she can give me other than bc pills. I'm out of commission when this happens. Everyone around me knows to stay away. PLEASE HELP!

I have always suffered from severe PMS, especially the extreme fatigue and depression. I have tried anti-depressants which just made me feel wacked out. I found that taking 25 MG of DHEA every other day throughout the year has really helped with my energy level. My gyno. turned me on to DHEA when I was complaining about fatigue. Also, I recently started YOGA which really helps with my depression. Good luck! I know how debilitating it can be especially when others around you don't understand the hormone connection.

I wrote some advice in a post to "I'm outta control and PMSing" where I listed vitamins and supplements recommended in this book by Dr. Erika Schwartz for young women your age.
I truly believe that proper nutrition and supplements can help our hormones balance and in turn help us feel better. Please read my post to I'm outta control and PMSing where I list the supplements suggested by Dr. Schwartz. I would type them all out again, but I am too lazy!
