My blood pressure has been staying high even with my b-p meds. Its been around 190 over 115 and my pulse is 46 to 48. I am weak and feel tired. I am 52 years old and take tenormin once a day and clonidine twice and been taking ultracets for pain in knees and serax to help me stay off alcohol. I work but been off due to the knees and hate going to doctor. anyone ever had this problem.

chedon,

Something is wrong and you MUST get to your doctor ASAP(call him today) and maybe stop the clonidine til you get there:
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking clonidine and seek emergency medical attention:
· an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
· a very slow heart rate (fewer than 60 beats per minute); or
· unusually high or low blood pressure (severe headache, redness of the face, neck, and chest, dizziness, and fainting).

I have a hunch you'll be in the hospital for a couple days til they sort this serious situation out. D You might need other drugs for BP control since both the clonidine and the atenolol (Tenormin) lower the heart rate considerably...a diuretic is probably the better way to go.

I think that your 4 drug "cocktail" is perhaps one or two potent drugs too many...and WHY you are still showing 190/115 (dangerous) WITH these drugs will require some good medical insight.
