I had my stones at the end of 2003, from October till my surgery in January. since then, i've been doing my best to drink more water than normal, but based on my urine color, i realize, i'm not winning the water battle. for the most part, my urine stays bright sunshine yellow. sometimes, it goes as far as orange, sometimes, it's very clear, but mostly it's yellow. i personally thought i was drinking enough water, but i guess i'm not. i drink about a liter a day, but i'm told, i should be doing more like 2 liters or so.
anyways, i'm a CSR person, so basically, for 8 hours a day, i'm glued to a telephone taking calls all day. well, when i do drink water at work, if i have to use the bathroom, i have to usually go into personal time. i try to wait till break or lunch, but usually, i can't. anyways, we're allowed 15 minutes a day of personal time before it goes against us. one day, i used the bathroom so much, i took 45 minutes of personal time throughout the day. so, i had a talk with my supervisor, who explained to me, i'm not meeting my objectives for the job and i told him, i understand, but ever since my kidney stones, i'm more paranoid about them and so, i drink as much water as i can. i told him, i can't just sit there at my desk and hold it for 2 hours till break comes up. well, he said, basically, i need to do what i can to stay at my desk.
anyone who works during the day, how do you use the bathroom and drink so much water? i know that's my hold up about my water intake, because i'm cutting back due to work and by the time i come home at 4pm, it's hard to drink so much water to get my urine to clear. i go to bed at 8-9pm and in that 4-5 hour time span, i literally have to drink glass after glass of water. during the day would be so much easier if only my supervisor would understand, i'm not using personal time to goof off. i'm using the time so i don't have to deal with another stone.
if anyone has any advice about how to drink enough water throughout the work day without actually getting in trouble, i would absolutely appreciate that.
thanks,
Charlene

Charlene,
I had a similair problem, but mine was much worse. Unfortunately, due to being absent so much and needing to go to the bathroom all the time, they were trying to write me up and giving me a lot of grief. Luckily I was able to leave that company, even though we could desperately use that extra income.
The only thing that I can think of is talk to your doctor about the situation at work and get a note/letter from him for your work. It may help the situation and may not. However, if problems arise like in my case, you have documentation in your work file. By the way, if you do this, make a copy for yourself.
Take care,
Shannon
