I would like to purchase a good quality ceramic flat iron/hair straightener. I've been looking at the Unil, Hai convertible, Hai Stik, and the Chi. Has anyone used one or more of these products? I would love to hear any and all comments that would aid me in choosing which one would be the best. Thanks!

Well, mine's not ceramic, but it works great. They usually work pretty well, but you MUST use a good conditioner everyday. Otherwise you're going to end up with dry split-ends all over the place. Mine puts off steam as it straightens. It's a good idea to get one like this because it's not as drying as a regular iron.

I recommend a ceramic hair straightener..I have straight hair but it takes the frizz right out of my hair, plus it's not nearly as damaging as the regular metal straighteners. They're a bit more expensive, but definitely worth the money. :)

Kat...which brand and model of ceramic iron do you use? I'm a bit confused about the options...it is hard to get information on them. I think both the Hai and Unil have variable temperatures while the Chi just has one temperature.

Margalo..
The brand and model is Hai 2 Ceramic Flat Iron..they're $119 (but like I said, definitely worth the money). We're not allowed to post websites, but just try searching for hair straighteners...Good luck! :)

i haven't used any of the hair irons posted above but i do have solano sapphire and it's amazing. it comes with a removable comb and it's what all the salons use. it's about $100 but it's by far the best iron i've used.

Hi,
Well I have been straightening my hair for 3 years. ihave tried them all, and nothing works better than the Hai2 or Chi irons. I keep my hai2 at the highest temp. 200 degrees, so , even though the chi has no temp. control, I need the highest level anyway. I have long, frizzy frizzy, poofy hair, and my hai2 gets it stick straight and smooth. If you have shorter hair that is undamaged, then I would recommend the Chi over the hai stik (better manufacturing I have read). Otherwise go with the Hai2. YOu will not regret it. My life is so much easier now. It takes me 5-7 minutes to do my hair, and I can go out in HUMIDITY! Use a balm like REDKEN STRAIGHT before blow/air drying, then spray in some BIOSILK SMOOTHING SPRAY or SEXY SMOOTH AND SEAL. Make sure the hair is totally dry, then section it off and do the underlayers followed by the top layers, running the iron smoothly down the strands. Do not brush or style until hair is cool. Some people finish with a little gloss polish or spray. Voila! Beautiful Jennifer Anniston hair!
YOu might also consider thermal reconditioning. It is amazing when done by an experienced stylist and it gives you this look 24/7. A bit risky at the same time. I am considering it, but not nearly so much now that I have my Hai2.

Thanks so much to all for the great input...I was wondering if anyone has used the Unil...it seems relatively new. The picture shows the on/off switch and temp control inside...seems a bit dangerous. Just wondering!

I too use the hai2 and love it! I am going to also get my hair TR'd (thermal reconditioned) in a couple of months. But, you have to find someone with a lot of experience before you think about this process. You can just search under thermal reconditioning and check out before and after pics...it's amazing and most people love their hair soo much that they can't shut up about it :)

I own a couple of ceramic irons, the chi, unil, and the superstar. I think the superstar is a newer verson of unil. I also think the superstar is safer for the hair to protect the cuticles and hair color, and it does the job. But I can never get it to glide easily though my hair. On the other hand, I have never felt anything as silky smooth as the chi iron. Nothing compares to it, so silky I just can't stop touching my hair, and I'm a guy. I also had a friend who used the chi iron, says that the hair feels really silky and beautiful the first few months, but after about 9months of constantly using it, it leaves the hair lifeless. So I'm alittle skeptical with the chi. Has anyone else had this problem with the chi I'd love to hear from you. I'm looking to try the Hai2

My girls use the Chi. They love it. It gets there hair stick straight and it stays that way. I dont think the lack of settings matter much. They always used the highest setting on other straighteners. They have long, thick, coarse, wavy, curly hair. They also use various products on it. They particularly like the Biosilk brand. There is a Biosilk spray that you can spray on the hair right before you run the iron on it and it seals in the product to keep hair soft and straight. All irons after time will damage hair. There's nothing you can do about that. Just get regular trims, and use a good conditioner.
