I was just thinking that eating disorders are obsessions and compulsions, but i was just wondering if anyone had any compulsive things that they have to do?
Foe example, i have to compulsively have eyeliner on all the time, and on Sundays i always have to have my red socks on. In the hospital when i went in for treatment there was another ghirl in there who always had to arrange the oranges in the bowl 5 times while we ate our food
Who else have compulsions like these?

Mine were a bit different I guess, I used to eat reaalllly weird combos of food and such. Like for instance, I would take some Equal packets and empty them on a plate along with some spray butter, mix together and eat the mixture. I would consume alot of this mixture. That was about a year ago, now I chew gum like a maniac. It goes from one weird thing to the next. I will go through sooo many packs of gum to the point where my jaw hurts bad. I don't know why, I am looking to stop this very soon.

ummm well i have this really bad compulsive habit of rubbing the skin off my lips...its really annoying cause i usually don't really realize i'm doing it until my lips are soo sore or start bleeding a little and then its still hard to stop  i also have specific ways to eat certain foods...i ALWAYS eat them in the same way every time...like for example w/ an apple i bite all the way around the middle then i move to the left side and bite all the way around then to the right side all the way around until the skin is all gone then i move back to the middle and repeat until i'm done the apple :D with sandwiches or burgers i always start at one side and work my way to the opposite side always ensuring i keep a perfect line...i feel kinda wierd now :p

That is soo funny, I do the same thing to my lips until they bleed. My boyfriend at the time always commented on it when i would do it without realizing.

Confused11-
I totally do the same thing with gum...I eat so much of it. Honestly, I probably go through 1-2 packs a day. I find myself chewing the gum for probably 5 minutes and then sticking another piece in my mouth. My jaw hurts by the end of the pack! (I stopped for a while because I have TMJ, and shouldn't be chewing gum, but I do anyway....now I chew it all the time!) I also have this weird thing with cleaning. I clean all the time. Nothing is ever clean enough for me. If I come home and there are papers scattered all over the counter, I will put them in piles...now I FEEL WEIRD...hahah!

This is really weird, but I think if I just type it I will feel a little better. I've never told anyone this before, please don't think me a freak....
I throw up what I have eaten in a large bowl, or plastic bag, or bath towel, or whatever is available, and go through making sure I have thrown EVERYTHING up that I have consumed. I am not a binger, but I do this because I feel that I HAVE to know EVERYTHING is out...-you know?
Okay, I feel weird for saying that. I also do the gum thing. The scale is another HUGE problem. I have one in the down stairs bathroom and upstairs. I also carry one in my trunk...(for during the day...) I must stand on that thing a MILLION times a day! And the tape measure....we won't even go THERE!! I hate all this stuff!!! Imagine if we all put this energy into positive things....I KNOW! Easier SAID than DONE!
Thanks for lending an ear.

I use to do the same with purging. I always knew what order the food would come out and if i didn't see it in the toilet I knew I had to try harder to get i out. I also use to chew gum to no end. Still do. I would put a fresh piece in after 5 minutes of chewing. I also have a habit of twisting my hair. I don't even know I'm doing it. People tell me they see me driving in my car and twisting away. I also do it in my sleep and just caught myself doing it now!!

And you and I eat an apple the EXACT same way... cool, LOL.

Something else I do. I ALWAYS eat pizza backwards. I eat the crust first, and I will refuse to eat it any other way, LOL. And as for sandwiches? If it's tuna fish, then I will rip the bread, scoop the tuna with the bread, and eat it like that. If it's a hamburger, I will bite the circumference, and work my way around until I get to the very center, in which case I take the very last bite. If it's a hero, I always start from the "neater" end. And oh, just a bunch of other weird things I do! I have RULES for eating certain sandwiches, talk about weird, huh? :)

Hey Quencher...that's cool :D and pretty much all foods i eat i end up eating in the same form/way every time...most of the ways i eat them have to do w/ the tidiness like eating in straight lines and stuff and eating in an organized way....i used to be really organized at home too like w/ books and stuff...i would keep things colour co-ordinated and labelled everything but i'm not soo obsessed w/ any of that anymore cause i don't have the energy for it....i used to do all my cleaning in one day on the week-end but now i find after getting half of it done (sometimes not even half way) i'm just too exhausted and warn out to do any more...so it's hard keeping things organized like i used to when i just don't have the energy...i still have a lot of things labelled but the tidiness part i'm not so good w/ anymore. I also have another quirk about me...actually i don't think its really a compulsive habit per-say...i think it's more my stuburness :D but anytime i go to play a certain game like solitaire or something....i absolutely have to win once before i will walk away...i don't like playing the game anymore cause i always dig myself into that really frustrating hole...where i'll keep losing and i'll get bored of the game and want to put the cards down and walk away but i just can't until i win once and even then sometimes i'll tell myself i have to win not only once but a set # of times before i will allow myself to walk away or take a break...i end up getting into fights w/ myself and i'll start yelling at myself and saying stuff like "o.k you loser i don't care if you're tired you are not going to put those cards down until you finally win one game" or 2 or 3 or whatever  sometimes i'll end up sitting there for hours soooo frustrated cause well as anyone knows...solitaire isn't a game you tend to win a lot...its all luck really so yeah i'm stubborn w/ myself that way...i'm like that w/ other things too... :p

Cool! I eat my foods in the same way/form everytime, too!! (Except when I'm bingeing, of course, LOL.) Although I don't eat in straight lines, I always eat in a certain order. If I have a chicken ceasar salad, for example, I ALWAYS eat the tomatoes first, and after I'm done with the tomatoes, I move on to the lettuce, and I always, always eat the chicken LAST. I will NOT eat it anytime before, haha.

And like you, I ALSO like things to be organized. I used to spend HOURS every night just organizing and reorganizing my binder. But now? Well, I'm just too lazy to do it. And I don't care too much for school, anyway. And I've become aware, also, that I was just wasting my time, because it never DID get any "neater." (Because it was ALREADY neat!) But of course, I still have an occassional compulsion to reorganize 'cause I can't stand to see anything out of place.

And you keep things color-coordinated, too?? WOW. We are VERY much alike in our compulsions! I do this, too. Last summer, I was working at a children's department store, and I organized the WHOLE darn store (3 floors) by color, and size. ROYGBIV, LOL! The boss, he loved me, haha. As for solitaire... I have NEVER won a game of solitaire in my whole life, so don't feel bad! I simply suck. That's all there is to it. ;)

I don't know if this really counts as a compulsion but whenever i see a packet of food, i have to read the food label.
Take the chocolate bars by the tills is shops. Even thou i would never buy them, i have to find out how many calories and fat they contain.

Anorexia and obsessive-compulsive disorder actually do occur together quite often.

I started having OCD-like symptoms, and then at 18, I got anorexia. In ym 20s the OCD got really really bad. Now I am on Prozac and ok. :)
