A person can stay healthy and symptom free for years after contracting the virus. That's why it's impossible to tell who is and isn't infected. So as far as can you be infected for over a year and not have gotten sick yet the answer is yes you can. But as far as your fevers, chances are it's not related to HIV. You never know until you get tested so if you feel you may have been at risk the only way to know is to be tested.

I think there seems to be a misconception about the symptom phase of HIV. When a virus enters our bodies, no matter what virus it is, our bodies launch an attack. With this fight come some symptoms ie. fever, headache, achy muscles, rash, swollen nodes etc. However, because these are the same symptoms no matter what the illness, it is silly to diagnose HIV before considering other more common causes. I think what is being said is not necessarily that HIV infected individuals show NO symptoms, but more likely they may miss or pass them off as something else. People may have experience some mild fever at least when they contacted the virus and only found out many years after because they thought that it could be some common fever. They may not have the necessary information then and therefore do not know that something is going wrong with their body thus ignoring it. Years later when they got diagnosed they could not remember anything because how often do u remember the exact time u got sick years back. If you suspect that u may be infected and kept on monitoring..this is when u will know that something is going wrong..

I find it extremely hard to believe that HIV can enter the body, the body start to fight it and the person feels nothing, impossible. The symptoms may be very mild and possibly pass unnoticed...but they are there. I have found several articles which state that between 70%-90% of HIV infected people will go through ARS. Most of the time it is misdiagnosed in ER's because it can resemble so many other illnesses out there. I also came across an article which stated that the symptoms of ARS can be so severe, they can knock you out for weeks. So how can it be that bad in some people but absent in most?, it just doesn't make any sense.

Neverless,if u think u are at risk..please get tested..

My dear friend contracted the HIV virus 8 years ago and he is healthier than I am. He does not even take an aspirin. No meds at all! Apart from the standard flus we all get seasonally, he has no signs. His weight has never changed and he continues to live the way he did before. He eats right, does not take any street drugs and only drinks in moderation. He told me that a lot of people who get HIV are so depressed ( naturally ) therefore, they go out and do lots of street drugs like '' E " or " K". All of this stuff lowers the immune system, therefore making a person with HIV more susepible to illness.
Who knows what is right and wrong these days, I just pray they find a cure for this.

10 Years ago, it would have been very possible to have HIV Virus and not get detected through blood test. TODAY, the testing methods have advanced so much that a 6 month Negative test result is considered conclusive. Dorctors always say you can rest after another 6 months BUT chances are if you are negative at 6 months you are negative at 1 year. I wouldnt worry so much HOWEVER, i myself get worked up over little things, any cough, itch or pain will lead me right to my doctors front door. Get retested just to have peace of mind. BUT, if you asked me, i would say you are fine.
