I understand that it is quite bad for you. There is a lot of information on the internet about it. For one thing, even though it doesn't have sugar, it actually raises blood sugar, our doctor was explaining this to me yesterday, but I forgot why it raises the blood sugar. The upshot is that it raises the blood sugar and if you take a lot of it it can actually make you more likely to get diabetes! There are other problems with it, too. I know that in other countries they have sodas with stevia sweetener instead of aspertame, but not in the US as far as I know. You could try using unsweetened juice with a touch of baking soda in it for fizz. That tastes pretty good but you can't just drink it all day long because you would be drinking too much juice. You can cut the strength of the juice somewhat, though, to stretch it farther and it still tastes good.

Diet Rite sodas are sweetened with sucralose, as is a line of Waist Watcher sodas. Sucralose is an artificial sweetener, too, though, and some people think it is just about as bad as asparatme.

I absolutely despise Aspertame in stuff. A friend of mine gave me a 'Fresca' today and it is made with Splenda. I thought it was GREAT!

If you're looking for a low-calorie drink alternative, I am a huge fan of the flavored Propel Fitness waters! They're not diet but they only have about 20 calories.

Fresca is made with Splenda? I thought Fresca was one of the biggest culprits of containing Aspertame. Is this a different, new type of Fresca? I need to know because my wife drinks Fresca everyday. Thanks! Dave'

I checked out all the diet sodas in a local store and found that Orange Diet Crush is made with Splenda rather than aspertame. It also has no calories and no caffeine. It doesn't taste great, but it does taste better than water and is probably the best zero calorie drink with no aspertame I've ever had

The only problem with consuming products with ANY artificial sweeteners is that the body doesn't know how to use them. They "fool" the body into producing insulin (because of the perceived sugar load) which is to use up the sugar...but there's none to be had! The insulin/brain connection will actually make the person hungrier in order to intake food to use up the insulin.

There's no one who loses weight on ANY sweeteners. Not only does it fool the body, it actually fools the person into thinking it's a good thing.

Aspartame is the biggest hoax. There's all sorts of info about it. Best to make an informed decision about consuming it.

My advice.....consume what your body can ACTUALLY use, and just limit your intake of regular soft drinks.

If you are diabetic.....this posting doesn't apply.

Sugar, the body knows HOW to use. But, the person has to do a bit of self-control, which is actually the most difficult part.

I think you might be right. When I was drinking a lot of that diet crush with splenda, I coincidentally was eating a ton of snacks (before I read your message). Now, I'm trying to force myself to mostly drink bottled water (even though I don't like it) and only occasionally have diet soda

Aspartame is controversial. Some people say it's harmless, but I believe that's what the companies making a profit off it want you to believe. It's known to cause migraines, and that's only the beginning. It is not natural. I don't trust Splenda, either, but I feel it's better than Aspartame. Hain brand makes sodas that contain Splenda; perhaps your local health food store could special-order some for you. I think you need to eat any artificial sweetner in moderation, though (which, to me, means only once or twice each week.) We just don't know enough about these sweeteners.

Of all artificial sweetners the lesser of the evils is saccharin (Sweet & Low). Tab diet soft drink used to be saccharin, but now it also contains aspartame. If you do some research there are numerous reports stating aspartame causes neurological problems. I started noticing I felt better when I gave up diet sodas and now whenever I have even a small glass of diet soda I get a terrible headache. Several other people have told me they had same experience. Splenda is suppose to be equally as dangerous. I get headaches from it too and it messes with my blood sugar level even more than aspartame. Some people rave about Stevia, but there are some reports that Stevia causes female reproductive problems. If you want calorie free drinks its just much safer to drink water or tea.

Aspartame is not fine!!! Aspartame is a mass marketed toxin. It is manufactured by Monsato, one of the world's leading carpet manufacturers. It is made from wood sugar, which is not an edible product, and formaldehyde is made from wood sugar. The human body breaks down aspartame into formaldehyde, then into formic acid, which is the poison that fire ants inject when they bite. We all know the result of an ant bite, imagine what this poison does to the inside of the body.

I also heard that Diet Dr. Pepper and Diet 7-Up are aspertame-free...anyone know if this is accurate?

Diet Dr Peper & 7-up still contain aspartame. All the artificial sweetners are no better than rat poisoning. Why do you think it's called artifical? Because its unnatural! If you want calorie free drinks stick with water. Sodas are crap. The reason people are so sick these days is because of the high acid diet the average American eats. Soda is highly acidic & so is aspartame. Its not good for your bones or teeth either. If you don't believe me all you diet soda addicts then kick your habit for a month and see how you feel. Its amazing how the brain fog lifts after a few weeks off aspartame. And to think parents allow their children to drink this crap.

I have a favorite diet drink - WATER.

Aspartame is surrounded by horror stories, sugar is bad, and soda itself causes bone loss. The new sweeteners aren't trustworthy, in my opinion. Remember Sorbitol?? That was considered healthy for many years; now it's not. If it's soda pop, it's all bad!!
