I am so sorry you are in such pain, what meds are you currently takeing????I know most do not touch nerve pain, but anti-inflamatories work rather well if you keep up with them,I also use a heating pad, although some say ice works better, hopefully it is because your nerves are all worked up and the way it has been explained to me , it takes alot of rehab to get them to relax again,I seems to feel at my best walking,I guess that gets the blood flowing,I know docs hate to give anything for stress ,but I think you should really fight for something that will relax you a bit,I hope one of the senior members can help you more then I,just know we are all feeling for you and you are not alone,Diana

Hi bob, what I have been doing , since c 5-6 is still buldging and causeing some problems, is I take( 4 )200mg Ibuproven,4 times a day,so every 6 hours,I told my NS this yesterday, and he was fine with it,my surgery was Aug 13th 2004,( fused c-6-7) so maybe if you can tolerate it,give it a try,its not as strong as a steroid, but if you take them like clock work, they do give relief, let me know ok,and I hope they take some of the edge off for you too, just remember it may take a day or too, cuz they have to catch up on the inflamation.Diana

If you are not fused yet,do not take aspirin or anti inflammitories as they will inhibit bone growth. My NS decided to tell me this AFTER i had been taking them on an almost daily basis after my fusion, and of course, my fusion did not take.i was quite angry at his office for not informing me of this vital tidbit of info until it was too late.So of course then my only option at that point was to have to undergo another surgery for hardware placement.god, listening to your post it was almost like reading my daily journal after MY surgery,I surely DO feel for ya.I really think that it might be time to look at a second opinion or at the very least, get another MRI.It sounds like something is going on in there that needs to be found out.you should not be in this much pain for this long after your surgery.i had this same problem and my NS would not okay another MRI so i went to my primary as I was getting no where with the NS and asked him to do the refrral instead. He has known me for 12 years and when i told him just what was going on.he knew that I was dead serious about something not being quite right in there so he did the referral for me.i ended up going to another NS as well.He was able to tell me that the increased pain that i was having was due to something other than the actual surgery. It was this cavernoma inside of my spinal cord that had bled again and was wrecking havoc inside the cord.I ended up having to have the cav removed,or at least some of it anyway.but that is a whole other story that would take forever to explain.I just wanted to let you know that if your NS will not help you,you DO have options!Good luck, Marcia

gee's my NS ok'ed the ibruprovin , but I do have the hardware already, I know I read somewhere on the internet no anti-inflam up to 6 wks after surgery, but I have been takeing them cuz of c5-6 being bad,I just dont know anymore, whats good or not.I did meet a another patient of my NS today, who had c5-6-7 done, she said she had lower back pain, that kinda floored me,never any shoulder or arm pain, and she said noticed in recovery room that lower back ache was gone.Diana
