I'm 22 years old and have been known to have serious hormone problems. I have facial hair and chest hair growth, overweight (215lbs) and am under a heavy load of stress everyday.

I have been diagnose with depression but here's what i noticed: When things gets really really bad it's followed by my periods. I've never been on a regular cycle so i don't know if it's because i'm so stressed i trigger my periods or because my periods are coming, i get emotionally out of control.

Here are some of the things i do about 1 - 2 weeks prior to my menses:

- Quit my job (done this twice. just stayed home and decided not to go back).
- I cry a lot and feel completely hopeless and desperate
- I get very sexually compulsive and need sex desperately.
- I get mad at the world for every little thing, start arguments with people around me.
- I depress and isolate myself or sleep for the whole day.
- Migraines are very common.
- I smoke about 6-7 spliffs a day instead of just 2-3.

All i know is in these moments of my monthly life that I seem to ruin everything and piss people off. My anger and emotions are uncontrollable and people are starting to hate me because i act so weird. I really can't take this anymore. When my periods are done, i realize that i've probably was overreacting over things and shouldn't have done or said certain things.

I've told several doctos about this and all they tell me is to go on the pill. The pill makes me sick, dizzy, gives me nausea and migraines almost everyday. I tried try-cyclen, Marvalon, Diane-35 and depo-provera (the biggest mistake of my life) and none of them did me any good.

I don't know what to do with myself anymore. I would like to be a normal person and not have to worry about going crazy every month or so. Does anyone else have this problem? Any insights or recoomendations?

Thanks,

VQ

I feel for you because I know how it feels not to be in control of your emotions. I checked out this book from the library by Dr. Erika Schwartz called "The 30 day natural hormone plan". At first you think that it is just about perimenopause and menopause, but she talks about how your hormones can be out of balance at any age. She gives advice on what to do for all ages.

For your age she recommends you taking the following supplements:

500 mg vitamin C
800 mcg folic acid
60 mg Coenzyme Q 10
400 mg magnesium
30 mg iron
50 mg B Complex
500 mg calcium citrate/maleate
50 mg lipoic aicd
450 mg EPA
500 mg L-carnitine

I have read that B complex helps with mood swings.

Have you been checked to see if you have PCOS? The irregular periods, weight gain and facial hair are all signs of PCOS. If your doctor is not doing everything to help you resolve these hormonal problems then you should find a new doctor.

If you have an opportunity, check Dr. Schwartz's book out at the library. It looks long, but half of it is charts and recipes. She explains how you can get your hormones balanced (providing you don't have something medically wrong like PCOS) by eating right, not smoking, take vitamins and supplements and exercising.

You deserve to feel good, especially being so young, and so you have to take charge of your health. If you were my daughter I would insist you go back to a different doctor, give him a list of all of your symptoms along with all of the medications that you have tried that failed. Ask if you could have PCOS and ask him for blood tests to check for hormonal imbalance including the thyroid.

Please make an appointment right away so you don't have to suffer any longer.
