What is out there for BC other than condoms and spermicides for smokers over 40 ? I hate both of those and don't trust the spremicides enough anyway. Anyone have any ideas ?!

Since hormonal forms of birth control are contraindicated in smokers, all I can think of for you is the diaphragm, sterilization, natural family planning, and withdrawal.

If you've had a baby before, a non-hormonal IUD would work.

Hi I am going to be 41 this month and a smoker so I am going through that now. I have been on Depo for 8 years and am told now how bad it is. ( Osteoporosis) They say that you should not take it for more than 2 years, yeah thanks for letting me know NOW. I am thinking of the IUD without hormones. I would really like Hubby to get the Vasectomy but he is "thinking about it" Chicken !!! LOL. But being that I have 2 grown children and don't plan on having anymore I am researching having my tubes tied. There really aren't many options. I tried condoms but got pregnant, then miscarried, so I am not willing to go that route again. I have 3 months to decide being that I just had my last shot against my Dr's better judgement. If anyone else can think of other options it would really help.

I'm 38 and went off the pill because I was getting menstrual migraines. I now use VCF Contraceptive Film (you can get it at Target). I found out about it from a BC website that I was using to order the Sponge from Canada. The Film is better cuz you don't have to fish it out after. :p It looks like a little square of plactic & you put it inside & it melts & forms a barrier and has spermicide.
