I am in the same boat Cleccu. Have you found that an existing routine has started to become harder, or are you only just starting out?

I found that the problem was the environment.. I used to do gymnastics in a dirty dusty moldy gym, literally foot high piles of dust.. right now i'm in off season & work out in a spotless clean gym. usually allergic asthma attacks can't be prevented by your albuterol inhaler.. talk to your doctor about a stronger inhaled steroid or change locations.

I have been exercising for a while.. I started a regular exercise routine about two years ago. I am in a really clean gym to do my exercising but I am still getting sick...

I am sorry to hear that Cleccu. Are you saying that you've always found exercising tough-going or is this a new development?

It is new... I used to be able to play a lot of sports and now I just don't have the air to do it.

Hi
Go and see your dr. If you are getting worse there may b something he can give you to help. When you say you have severe asthma, How bad is it? Are you on inhalers or tablets as well?? You shouldn't be suffering like this and there should be something that the Dr can do to makje it easier for you to excersice. I have brittle asthma and find it very difficulkt to excersise, the only way I can do it is in the Ice rink, its about the only place I can excersise without having an atack.

CLECCU do you see an asthma specialist to treat your asthma, the reason I ask is because only about 5% of all asthmatics are considered severe/brittle and the other 95% should be able to live relativly normal lives and be able ot exercise without their asthma getting in the way. You may just have to start out slow with the exercise because you may be out of shape a little bit even if you don't realize it, and pre treating before you exercise would probably be a big help too.

Hi
Let us know how you get on.
What do you take for your asthma (if you don't mind me asking)? It's just that I am about to try a new treatment using a sub cut infusion of terbutaline, it may be worth asking about if you are a brittle too! Either that or methotrexate or cyclosporin? Or maybe a long term low dose of steroids (if you aren't already on them)
Take care

Just out of curiousity have yoiu ever thought of going to National Jewish Medical and Research Center? They are the best resp hosptial in the country and maybe they would be able to figure out the missing link. I can totally relate to not being able to exercise though, my pulmonologist has now just decided to let me do what I can and she has recomended I goto pulmonary rehab to help with the exercise issue because I desatureate when I exercise which is a concern.

You poor thing! How are you getting on with the methotrexate? Have you been tested for other diseases which mimic asthma? Like VCD? It's just that my Drs at the specialist hospital I go to, told me that 75% of people who they inroll on their difficult asthma program, either don't actually have asthma or aren't taking their med properly. Unfortunatly, I'm stuck with Brittle asthma, but hey, could be worse I guess. I have a friend with worse asthma than me who now has a non resus order on her and has been in hospital for a few months. I'm just really hoping that the sub-cut works for me so I can get my life back.
I find the only way I can excersise is by skating, not sure if I said that in a previous post or not, but in the rink there is nothing that I am allergic to, and cold air int he rink doesn't set me off, unlike in the middle of winter when it's really cold outside!

So I found out that I am allergic to one of my meds and the doc says that is what is making things so hard for me... I go back on Sat to see what happens next...
