Ok-here are my symptoms in bullet points...please tell me if I have a problem that I need to worry about or seek help for (chances are, I do, or else I would not be on here asking):
-I think about food constantly: what is ok to eat, what is not ok to eat, etc..
-I get anxious/angry/irritable if I eat something I have labeled as "bad"
-I get a little uncomfortable eating in front of other people. I'd rather be at home alone when I eat.
-If I don't get a chance to exercise on a day that I planned/wanted to, I get anxious
-No matter what the scale says, I usually always just want to lose "5 more lbs"
-If I overeat or feel bad about how I ate that day, I don't want to socialize or go out
-I weigh 140lbs and am 6'
-I always have this "sad" feeling that I can't explain

LS289,
Well, from your post, you do have some issues you are dealing with through food. I suggest you talk to someone about how you are feeling about yourself, why you think you need to be just 5 lbs thinner etc.

For most people who list symptoms like you have, there is usually an underlying (or several) issue that has them disliking their bodies and therefore food behaviors become skewed.

These behaviors rarely get better on their own. You need to speak with someone about this. Please do not wait. These behaviors will only get worse and cause you to feel worse about life and yourself than you already do.

Thank you, Dance. I agree with you, and while I definitely want to get help and talk to someone, I also don't. I know that doesn't seem to make sense, but it's the truth. I definitely have issues with food though and they are controlling more of my life than I would like them to be controlling. I should not be missing out on life because of food...that just doesn't make sense.

I understand wanting to talk to someone and not wanting to do so. It may feel like that if you go to get help then you will lose the one thing in your life that is yours or that you feel you have control over (although that control is a myth). But if you find a therapist who is capable and caring, then you will not be stripped of these things and left feeling vulnerable.

You will slowly begin to understand why you feel as you do and this understanding along with new techniques for dealing with your feelings will allow you to slowly rid your life of these behaviors and implement new positive ones.

I know seeking help is scary, but please think about it. You deserve a life free from this maddness.

Hang in there.

~Dance
