hi, I'm an 18 year old girl and about 3 weeks ago i had unprotected sex with someone who's HIV status isn't confirmed. he said he was clean but then again he was also a psychopath. anyway, we had sex about 4 or 5 times, and one of the times was anal sex. we used lube (i guess that would prevent tearing) and he never came in me, not evne when we had vaginal intercourse. he'd always pull out on time. i became really relaly scared after that just out of not knowing whether he had something or not, and basically worried myself so sick that i went and got tested at 2 weeks. came back negative, but then again it was 2 weeks. a week later, now, i've developed a sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and a mild cough. would symptoms show up after 3 weeks?? was it possible that hiv could've been detected at 2 weeks? what are my chances of getting it if my partner was indeed infected? please, any feedback is welcome, i just need some answers and some support.

What you have to remember is that every symptom of HIV could feasibly be a symptom of many, many other things as well. It's recommended that you wait 3 months before being tested (CDC says that the 3-month test is 97% accurate), although the test is 50% accurate after one month. Waiting is the most difficult part...believe me, I'm waiting myself, and not a day goes by where I don't have a huge level of stress and depression!
Just remember that it could be a million other things (stress and anxiety can lower your immune system to the point where you'd develop those flulike symptoms...it seems like you were pretty nervous about this sexual encounter), and HIV, relatively speaking, is a pretty rare STI.
