View Full Version : Blood tests and vitamins

Hi,
I was just wondering if multi-vitamins containing iron could effect a CBC. I have had many symptoms of anemia for awhile now, but my Dr. said my blood tests looked ok. My hemoglobin was borderline low, but everything else was normal. It also said anisocytosis (+1)...anyone know what that means? My dr. said it had something to do with my rbc's having a range in size and shape, but didn't seem concerned about it.
Anyway, back to my question :) ...I started taking a multivitamin +iron a couple weeks ago. I was just wondering if that could have effected the accuracy of my labs.
Thanks in advance

It usually takes a white for your iron to increase while taking vitamins. One day I went to give blood and my iron was too low at 35, then I took iron pills for a week and got rechecked and it was 31, so I don't think they affect that much! LOL

What is the percentage of iron in the multivitamin. I'm supposed to (I never take it) take Ferrous Sulfate 325 MG which is about 381% of your daily iron intake.
