How accurate are the store blood pressure machines (i.e. Walmart)? Every time I take my blood pressure using one of those machines, my readings come out to be at least 140/90. Sometimes it goes as high 150 or even 156. When I take a second reading, it comes out to be 130/80-86. When I take my blood pressure at home using my own monitor, those are typically the results I get.

Are you talking about the BP machines located in the store?
I think the general consensus on this board is don't bother with them and that most of them are not maintained or calibrated properly, plus you got your cuff at home so why you using them?

Store BP machines are generally shot.
Even if they weren't, it's impossible to relax in one of them while hussling around with a shopping basket (and a howling child or a carping spouse and a dreary drive to the mall.)
At home in a La-Z-Boy recliner is the way to fly!

I use the machine in the supermarket and it gives the same readings i get at my dr's office and my home monitor.

My nurse told me to stay away from them, especially if the batteries in them go bad. When I went to Kroger last week, it was giving me a 157/100 reading. It scared the hell out of me too. So I went to see my dr and it was 130/90. I'll never use one of those machines again lol.

Taking two reading in a row is a problem because the body needs to recover from the first one. They need to be at least several minutes apart.
Interestingly enough I get my lowest readings from the store machines. Can those machines be off? Sure they can. Try several of them and see how close they agree with each other.

Agree with Mr. Owl. They tend to give me the same readings of 114-116/66 or so everytime. I don't see an inaccuracy factor. At the doc. it is now 120/78, because of the anxiety. He gave me great advice last time.... "come back whenever you would like to next, we have put you through enough tests"
