Hey all!
I posted something on the 'General Health Board' about me having skin problems..anyway...i went to the doctor and as well as prescribing me creams etc, she told me that I should take vitamins with Zinc in. I was sittin there thinking 'omg....has my skin gone completely ****** up because of me hardly eating anything??? What foods supposedly have zinc in?? I have eaten as little as this before and not had any skin problems........have any of you out there??

Caroline!
Hows things honey? Hope you are hanging on in there. I wrote you a brief reply to the post you left for me btw.
Ok, so you have a zinc deficiency - well you may not be aware of this but approx 50-60% of anorexics do acquire a zinc deficiency. And an interesting side effect of this deficiency is that it can then add to the chronicity of a decreased food intake in individuals.
As to why it is causing you a problem now could be due to many reasons, maybe you are restricting as before but allowing yourself 'safe' foods which have different zinc levels - or maybe they are just not absorbed as well.
Zinc is commonly found in cereals (fortified) meats and nuts. Just be careful not to take too many supplements as zinc toxicity is much more harmful than zinc deficiency.
Chin up sweetie - you are special so never forget that!

Hiya Caroline!
I know when I was at my worst, all my vitamins were really depleted. And yes, my skin (mostly thru recovery, with my hormones coming close to normal) became REALLY bad because of it. So basically, you cant have a quick fix...
As for zinc- avoid taking supplements- they will make you nauteous. You are best off taking either a multivitamin with zinc in it or searching out sinc enriched foods, to try to avoid it. Hope this helps!

Aurora- It also says that vegetarians need 50 percent more zinc....so..with me being a veggie..and restricting my diet...I guess it has some consequences!I just hate being so insecure about my face (as if i havent enough to worry about with my body).
I'm hanging in there....becoming more depressed as it is coming nearer to my friend leaving on Thursday ( i have posted something on the depression board)....but im trying to keep my chin up until Thursday...what else can I do?
Girlygirl- thanks for the reply......I just HATE this....there's always something going on..if it isnt my body..it's some other thing...now a skin problem i dont need, but never mind...ill just have to take care of it!!xxx
