I would like to get my eyebrows waxed, but one the one time I've had my aunt do it, I've had a horrible reaction to the wax or something. I don't know how to shape my eyebrows. I've tried the pencil thing, and it really doesn't work. So if anyone has any suggestions on where to get my eyebrows waxed that would work for me it would be great

What was the reaction you got? Maybe she got the wax too hot  Also what kind of wax did she use? You may want to go to a salon and tell them that you had your brows waxed at home and tell them the reaction you had and see if they have any solutions. Sorry I couldn't be more help. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif

After you have had your eye brows waxed the area will be red and quite sensitive. It would be a good idea to get them done at a salon and then they will be able to tell you if what you think is a reaction is normal or not. If the wax is too hot you can get burns. You can get funny looking but painful marks it you apply wax to the same area twice. The good news is once you have gone to the salon get a good pair of tweezers and just keep plucking the new hair growth as it grows in. It is much easier to get the shape you want without having to go to the salon as often. Be sure to tell the lady at the salon what your concerns are before she begins.

If it turns out that you cannot use wax, you might want to try nads. The stuff actually works pretty well. Another thing that may be an option to you is finding a solon that will do your brows with tweezers. I went to a beauty college here and they shaped my brows without using wax.

I think that the wax was too hot, cause I've had some pretty bad "reactions" when the wax was too hot. I have always had a professional do my brows, cause I just don't trust myself with tweezers!
The last couple of years, I've been getting my brows THREADED. When I used to live in Toronto I would get them threaded at this Indian salon on Dundas Street. It's dirt cheap, like $3.00 vs $10.00 that I would usually spend on waxing. They did a much better job and the lines were cleaner and there was virtually no redness after they were done. You might want to look into threading to solve your "reaction" problem.

Good thought! In fact I think I will look into threading myself. Not sure if anyone does it here but its worth a shot. Thanks for the info.

I would go to a salon if I were you. They have a different type of wax. For some reason I can't get the same effect at home as they get in the salon. By the way what is THREADING? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif Never heard of it. love all of your smilies too..... :)

Hi...this is for luv2bme63. Threading is an east indian technique for hair removal. I'm not sure how to explain it to you. Basically they have a long piece of thread that they twirl and wrap around their fingers. It's a very quick process. The feeling is strange at first cause they are pulling multiple hairs out at the same time and rolling this piece of thread over your skin. You do get used to it eventually. I believe that if anyone can stand to have hot wax ripped off their brows...they can pretty much handle threading. I was impressed with the results!! Like I said it's very inexpensive and I find that the results are a LOT better than waxing. Too bad I haven't found anyone who does threading in my neck of the woods. I often take trips to Toronto and wait until then to visit my east indian friends :)
