Ummmmm, thats a bit of a generalised statement. Some peoples asthma may be related to gluten, but asthma and allergies are very individual things! Everone is different. I have a wheat intolerance and a dairy intolerance, however I know a lot of asthmatics who do not have a problem with either of these things.

Losec great point, most people never make the connection. I know i never did, i found out in Jan 2004 that i had many many food allergies (including wheat, oats, barley. I'm not celiac) As soon as I took gluten out of my diet, my asthma vanished over the course of two weeks. I still have very mild flair ups every once in a while... but i'm no longer on asthma meds and i'm not using my albuterol 5-6 times a day.

I have a friend whose husband's allergies and asthma were abated with taking wheat out of his diet. There has to be something to this; there are too many people who have made this connection. I would advise anyone with asthma to at least try to remove wheat from their diet for a few weeks and just see what the outcome is. It can't hurt anything!! Even if it reduced meds it would be worth it. My EX-allergist claims that this would not help anyone unless they had an out right allergy to wheat. Which means swelling of the lips, itching etc. But I know for myself and too many other people that even an intolerance can affect your body. It might not be an ALLERGY per say, but a sensitivity to it. I have had to remove certain foods from my diet that not only cause allergies but other symptoms.
