Here's my deal. I have been on BCP for about a year now. Was on yasmin, HORRIBLE FOR ME. So my doc switched me to a generic kind. I have had awful periods since then. They come sometimes every 28 days, sometimes longer or shorter than 28 days. And I have a migraine EVERY period, and the migraines knock me right down for 2 or 3 days. And the bleeding will sometimes just completely stop during my period for a day or two, then kick in again. And I hate how emotional I am throughout the whole month. Also, my husband and I are planning on trying to get pregnant next spring. I have heard and read that after going off of birth control, you should give your body 3-4 months to adjust before getting pregnant. But I want to go off of bcp's right NOW. I don't want to do anymore experimenting with different kinds to find the right one for me. But everytime I make the decision to stop taking them, I get scared as to what might happen, side effects and everything. So I just stay on them. Can anyone offer some advice as to what I might experience with going off of the pill? And how long it lasted for you? I just don't know what to do anymore! Thanks guys!

The only bad thing I experienced when going off Yasmin were headaches for two weeks. Just recently I discontinued Desogen and didn't have any problems at all.

Have you ever considered using a low dose pill? I was on desogen and had migranes, gained weight, was depressed and had every other side effect you can think of. It even made me vitamin b deficient. Anyways, I switched to a low dose(20mcg) pill, and now I'm fine. It is the estrogen increse that causes the migranes, so maybe you could try a low pill before you stop all together. Believe me, I know how hard it is to make a decision because there is good and bad with everything, but if you like the benefits of being on the pill, maybe you should give it a try. Good luck

my friend who works at a gyn office tried yasmin- only was on it for 3 months bc she had the worst periods of her life and felt like complete crap. She had such cramps, heavy heavy bleeding and just was miserable.she said that while seh was taking it, she heard a lot of patients calling in wanting to switch to it bc they were all having issues on it- some of her friends have also switched off of it too.... not sure why so many people have issues with that pill.
i have been on many many pills over the past 8 years. ortho tri cyclen was ok... that was my first.. only thing was it made my acne worse instead of helping it.
i have been on estrostep for quiet some time... dont have any side effects what so ever with it. I am prone to extremely bad migranes - but i havent had too many while on this pill.. probably only 3 in the past year - compared to teh pretty much daily issues i have had in the past.
i have also been on alesse, desogen and god knows how many others. the alesse was ok, although towards the end, i wasnt getting my period anymore.. (which scared me)
i would def weight the pros adn cons of being on the pill. there are many many many different pills out there teh drs can try you on. and if you take a pill for 2 or 3 months and are having bad side effects, dont wait so long to have the dr switch you to another one.
if you decide to try another one, def let teh dr know the problems you are having, so they can try to give you a pill where most people dont have those side effects. some pills are known for certain side effects...
good luck!

If you are scared to come of the pill its not that bad. The only thing is your periods will be all screwed up! I got off the pill in March I got my period 2 weeks later then I did get it in April ontime! Skipped May! Got one in June! Skipped July! Got it in August and I was just soo freakin out because I didn't want to get pregnant and I was sick of buy HPT's Over and Over to keep my partner happy! (WE don't need children yet)
The only thing is your periods will be messed up.. I didn't experiance any headaches or pains, nothing- I felt like me again! No Mood swings no PMS nada! It was WONDERFUL! Just wish I knew when the dang thing was going to come! but for my safety of not needing children now Im back on it! Good Luck!
