I have had BPPV and trying the MEP faithfully now as I did not before...only problem is, I get so nauseated after I do this, I feel awful most the day and generally fatigued. This is suppose to be done 3x/day. Can't imagine feeling this awful for a whole week. Is this normal and is there anything I can do about it?? Desperate to get symptons to go away but hate the feeling. Thanks

Hi Thinbones

..." get so nauseated after I do this"...

Not while your doing it---but after you have done a full MEP set???

When your doing the MEP---can you describe/quantify---how you feel in each of the three positions---is the vestibular injury---right/left???---assume it is BPPV since your doing MEP???

Hi Thinbones.....yes, the nausea is normal. I've experienced it many times, especially when I'm early in an attack. Sometimes, I think it depends on how much stimulation one is having during the exercises.

It could also be that if the crystals are stuck in a certain place within the canal and they aren't out yet, the brain not receiving the information could be just overcompensating which would affect you to feel vertigo/dizziness in the way that would make you feel nauseated. And to me those are definitely my worst days.

When I felt like that, I took Gravol (dimenhydrinate) (started with a half at most twice in one day) and that took the edge off those symptoms so that I could at least function.

You will most likely have them for shorter periods of time as you get used to the extra stimulation.

it's normal!!

Hang in there!!!

Thanks for the input, Subs30, it is on my right side. I have severe vertigo when I tip my head back to the right, very little when I go to the left side, lots when I tip my head again down to the 45 degree angle and lots when I sit up. I get the nausea AFTER I am done, not during. This is the worst attack I have had, been having them for about 8 years on and off but I could always live with it and it was not that distressing. This is by far the worst.
QUINCY....thanks for the input and encouragement.....

Hi Thinbones

Now that is interesting!!!

Both Terry(treefarmer) & I have right side BPPV---&---both are doing the MEP.

Does the vertigo that you get when going back to the right go away(subside) while you are still in the first down right position---i.e., you stay in the position for 30 sec---then move to the left position---you get the vertigo before moving to the left---correct????

Hi Subs,

Been doing better the past few days. It's so weird sometimes on this side of things (more toward 100%). I just felt loopy for a couple weeks, and even still last Friday, then over the weekend, it goes away (mostly, still a float here and there) as suddenly as it came on. Not sure what that's about. I had stopped doing the MEPs; thought I'd give things a chance to calm down in there.

Like Thinbones, I'd have sensations when I turned to the right, for me they'd fatigue after about 5 seconds, nothing on the left, then sensations again when face down at 45 degrees. That one seemed more like traditional BPV vertigo because once I turned to face downward, it would take about 5 seconds for the sensation to come on, and then once it did it would fatigue itself after about 5-10 seconds. And for me the "sensations" are the about to spin type that never manifest into a full vertiginous episode. Those seem like relatively short durations, don't you think? It did get milder and milder on the right (though not completely symptom free), so that's also why I stopped; figured I could live with it.

Glad you are still doing well!

Subs,

School is good. I work as a curator of the slide collection in the fine & performing arts dept. at a private university, then I'm preparing to teach ART 101 at a community college. I'm just about finished with my prep, so I'm ready for school to start at PCC in a couple weeks. The jobs both suit me well because I can work on my own (other than the classroom part). Why a break? Does it sound like the stress is getting to me?

I looked at video 1 way back when Scott first posted that link, but I paid more attention to video 2 because I knew the Epley and like their success rate more; why do you ask?

Hi Terry

...."Why a break?".....

I was just responding to your post comment of:

..."I had stopped doing the MEPs; thought I'd give things a chance to calm down in there."......

...."why do you ask?"......

I was just thinking/wondering if you would get the:

..."Like Thinbones, I'd have sensations when I turned to the right, for me they'd fatigue after about 5 seconds, nothing on the left, then sensations again when face down at 45 degrees."....

same thing with that maneuver????

Sounds like things are going well---always liked the:

... "because I can work on my own"........

part of any job(s).

Still 100% here----doing the MEP weekly now----but---nothing---no anything---hard to believe it was not to long ago---that---the world was spinning---without a clue---as to what was going on or why---what a piece of work this junk is!!

Subs,

Yeah, things are going pretty well. That's also sort of why I'm not doing MEPs just now; don't want to upset the apple cart, if ya know what I mean, especially with this teaching job starting in 10 days. Also, tomorrow is my 41st birthday, and I want to feel normal for it!! So I'll just live and let live for now. If the major floaty blip returns, I'll resume. I can't wait to be like you and try it and feel ABSOLUTELY nothing. How wondrous that must be.

Ciao!
