I am an older lady(63), and for about 3 weeks now when I eat anything I get these horrible cramps and have to have a bowel movement(usually a normal one). This past week along with the cramping, I have a severe burning and soreness in my epigastric region on the right side directly under my right breast. I borrowed a Prilosec from a neighbor, and that really helps the burning and pain, but I still have a nauseous, queasy feeling and I,m scared to death to eat anything. The pain sometimes is lower down too, in my lower right colon. I have never had any problems with my stomach, so all this is new to me and pretty scarry. I also have a tremendous amount of gas! Does anyone have any ideas about what this is or what might be going on with me?

I was going to say IBS - it sounded classic, except when I got to the part you said about pain under your right breast (could be gallbladder in that case) IBS would cause pain in the lower LEFT side if it was in the side at all.

Sunlover, I went back to the doctor this week and he has diagnosed Spastic colon, which I now find out is IBS. Its been 3 weeks and despite all the different medicines I,ve been given, I still have the pains. The only thing that does seem to give me some relief is Zelnorm and Pepto Bismo. Do you know why I couldn,t tolerate the Prevacid? It gave me unbearable pains! I was first diagnosed with H-Pylori and he gave me the prevpak, which is an antibiotic, an acid reducer and bismuth tablets. The antibiotic was Zithromax and it did the same to me that the Prevacid did. I know it was both of them because I tried cutting both of them out on different days, and I was in agony when I took either one! The Zelnorm helps, but I,m not totally pain free. There is always a nagging pain in my abd. all the time and it really puts a damper on trying to enjoy life. Thanks for your advice and input.

My brother had the same thing happening and they removed his gall bladder after many many tests and he is doing much better now. Do you have sharp shooting pains as well?
