View Full Version : Woke up with echoing and hearing sensitivity

Hoping someone can help with this. I posted this in Hearing Disorders but then I saw this category and I'm wondering if this might be inner ear related.

I woke up today with loud echoing in my ears, like a long loud reverb from any type of sound. Any noise or sound seems to "hurt" my ears as sound does when it's way too loud, however, these are just normal everyday sounds. Even moving the blankets in bed caused the echo and it's like the sound feeds on itself and gets louder. It also kind of has that "water in the ear" feel but I didn't do anything that might have caused that.

Has anybody had these type of symptoms? Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Any help would be appreciated. It's really affecting me, don't even feel like I can function today.
Thanks for any info.

Well, I don't know if this is exactly what you mean but I think that what I have sometimes is similar to that. I get this feeling like any noise will give me a vibrating sensation in my head. Especially if the noise is unexpected, BUT it doesn't have to be loud--just any little noise and the weird feeling happens. It is almost like a vibration right behind my eyes but it makes my whole head and ears feel extremely sensitive for the moment. It is almost like someone is banging a gong inside my head! I don't know if that is anything like what you have but it comes and goes for me. During the month of May I had it very badly and it even kept me awake at night because as I was falling asleep I would be startled awake by the feeling in my head. It also made me very nauseous when it got bad. I've told my doctors about it and they have no clue. I think because it is so hard to describe to them what I'm feeling. One doc suggested I try some anti anxiety meds that would restore my brain chemicals and fix the problem--but it seems a little weird to me so I haven't tried it yet. BUT like I said it was bad in May and has since died down so...I don't know. Maybe yours will settle down soon and, if not, I would agree with Brina on telling an ENT or neurologist about the problem. Good luck to you! :)
