I just called my doc to refill my birth control prescription because it was only for 6 months. She told me I have to make an appt. I said the last time I was there was six months ago, shouldn't I only go once a year. she said "not when you're on birth control".....does anyone besides me find that weird, cause none of my other docs ever did that.
It is so different over here in Australia. We don't have to get a check-up and pap when getting the pill and we only have a pap smear once every 2 years. The first time I even went to the doctor for a script he didn't even ask me what I wanted to use it for!! (It was for period pain at the time). But I don't like that doctor at all and have since found much better ones.
I would say she is just concerned for your health and wants to keep a close eye on everything. But if you think this is a bit excessive then maybe find another doctor (if this in a option).

i had been to a bunch of drs until i found the right one. I have had drs that would make me go in every 6 months when i wanted to get the pill refilled. I know someone that works at a drs office and i was pretty much told they do that for the money. another appt means more money.
I mean some people need to go every 6 months for other reasons.. but for the most part they really shouldnt need to see u if everything is ok, and your not changing pills.

Sounds like a money grab to me. I know that where I live, insurance won't cover more than one a year unless there is something specific they are looking for, in other words, there has to be something wrong with you.
I would discuss this w/your doc and try to get just the refill, or I would consider finding another doctor who will prescribe one year at a time.
Just remembered something, is this the first time you have been on the pill, ever? If so, she may want to make sure things are going well, then it will be a year after that. I've heard of doctors doing this after the first three or six months to make sure your body is handling it. But only in that situation. If that's the case, make sure you walk out of there with a scrip for one year.

Well........i've been on this pill for a while now, but she's a new doc, just went to her for the first time 6 months ago. I'm not changing pills and have normal paps so there is no need to go in every 6 months. I also think my insurance only covers one pap a year, I need to look into that. But she's actually the first doc that I like....but if i'm gonna have to go twice a year just to refill my birth control..then maybe i'll start lookin for a new one.

Angel,
I started going to a health clinic (County-funded) and they have had me in every 3 months since I went in (next week will be my 3rd visit). I do not believe this is a ploy for money (since I am not paying anything). And I do beleive your doctor just might be wanting to make sure everything is OK!
Dont worry...at least it gives you a little extra peice of mind. ( I sure as hell dont mind!)
