My sister in law went in for a routine hysterectomy. When the drs. got in there they found tumors on both overies. They were cancerous so they removed those as well. They looked further and found cancer on her intestines and removed what they could. She now has an infection from the surgery and is running a temp. They have told her that she will need chemo but no details as of yet. What can we expect? Anyone been through something similar?
What advise would you give? Thanks.

All I know is that chemo for colon cancer is different than chemo for breast cancer. Apparently it is a different formula, and not as strong. Doc told my mom that with colon/rectal cancer chemo, you don't lose your hair.

It's not that the chemo is "not as strong" for colorectal cancer, it is different chemo which causes different side effects. But by no means is it less potent, and does have side effects of its own. In some people, by the way, depending on the agents used, some people with advanced colorectal cancer DO lose their hair.

Sorry, you hit a sore spot... people used to tell me how well I was doing because I wasn't losing my hair... they didn't notice the thinning, chronic diarrhea, incessant vomiting and nauseau, chills, sweats, to name a few!
