So it appears that my test after 3 months (14 weeks to be exact) has come back negative. However, based on my symptoms, the risk (unprotected vaginal sex), and the fact that I'm an extremely anxious person, I don't know if I can mentally and emotionally deal with 3 more months of waiting. Should I be pretty confident after 3 months (I'll get tested at 6 months regardless)? I'm just wondering what circumstances would cause someone to test positive after the initial three months. Thanks again, guys!

a 3 month test is absolutley conclusive. 6 months is for people with an already compromised immune system like those with certain cancers and other very serious illnesses. congrats!!!! you are negative, relax and don't give HIV any more of your precious time!!!!!!!

Well, it is possible that I have a weakened immune system based on the fact that I have REALLY bad anxiety as well as use corticosteroids for eczema. I know both these things can lower my immune response. However, would they lower it ENOUGH to cause such a delay? Also, what if I was coinfected with HIV and Hep C? Wouldn't it take longer to develop antibodies? Sigh...I'm still really scared.

Oh, and one more thing that's freaking me out! The girl I may have contracted this from (if I contracted it, which I'm now guessing after 3 months I probably didn't) just got a really bad case of the flu this week. Is it possible that she could have been infected around the same time she infected me, but didn't develop ARS symptoms until now (even though I already would have developed mine)? How rare are symptoms of ARS this long after exposure (it would have to have been at least 3 months, probably more since I'm assuming she didn't have unprotected sex with someone else the same day or even same month as me). She also says she lost like 14 pounds in the past three months, but then again she runs like 4 miles a day, so maybe I shouldn't be worried about that part. Thanks! Sorry to sound like such a hypchondriac, I'm just trying to make sense of the entire situation. Am I just being psychotic?

ARS is extremely rare period. I don't know how many documented cases there are, but 6 weeks is generally the cut off point for seroconversion illness. In the vast majority of cases, HIV infection carries no symptoms at all until the very late stages and / or AIDS illnesses.

I have never heard of HIV antibodies taking longer to show up simply because of also acquiring Hep B infection. Sounds impossible. Congratulations on being negative!
