Hey Kimba28,

Thanks again for your posts. The head zaps that I was getting have reduced significantly over the past couple of days. I have been taking cod liver oil, it tastes disgusting! I have now been on Zispin/Remeron for approx 4 weeks, however I have only been on the constant 30mg dose for 2 just over 2 weeks. After the initial week of feeling fine as you know I went down hill. I jit the booze big time, however, I have now been alcohol free for over 2 weeks now. I have found that drinking does not numb the pain on Zispin as it did on Citalopram (I guess this is a good thing!). I felt that I was getting better for a while on the Zispin about a week ago but the past couple of days have not been good. I just wish I knew if it was going to work for me or not, at least then you have hope in that knowing that you are going to get better. Everyday at the moment when I awake its like 'oh god, another day feeling like crap'. I too have spoken to people who have taken Zispin and they have told me good things about it. Im trying to be positive, the head zaps have gone and I am not anxious like I was on Citalopram. Anyway, thanks for listening and replying to my posts. Cheers for now, Dylan

Dylan,
LOL!!!! You are way braver than I am! I am taking CAPSULES. And they are bad enough. They make me burp, and when I do it tastes like FISH!!!! But I haven't had the "zaps" for a couple of weeks! Could you possibly find yours in capsule form? It's a lot easier.
About the zispin/remeron.....I would so love to tell you that I am positive that it will work for you. Just like I would love for someone to tell me that I will get past these withdrawals and feel "normal" again. (okay--normal for ME! LOL!!!!) I can't do that, honey. But I can tell you some other things. It did initially help you in the sleep department, right? Is it still helping it? If it is helping your sleep at all, that is a big thing. Insomnia is a side effect of the depression. But insomnia will also worsen your depression. So if it is helping your sleep, you WILL get somewhat better. Number two: you said you have only been on the steady dose for two weeks...not long enough to see all the improvement it is possible to give you. Plus, it may not be the right dosage. Once you find the right dose, and you are steadily on that dose for a month...AT LEAST....then we will talk about whether or not it is working for you. Three: you came off another medicine if I recall, right? Withdrawal from the other medicine could be counteracting or masking the work the Remeron/Zispin is doing. I can tell you as someone who is doing a really nasty withdrawal from Lexapro, it is nothing to shrug off. Given more time, you may get through the effects of the last medicine, and then be able to see what this one will do for you more clearly. And four: you need to stop drinking. Believe me...I know this little tidbit SUCKS!!!! And I won't tell you that I haven't been on a bender or two myself lately, even though I shouldn't right now either. But it is not going to have the effect you are craving right now (as you have already found out ). In fact, it's going to do the opposite. Your body is doing the best it can to try and level out, coming off and on these different meds. The alcohol is more than your system can manage right now, and it will make you feel WORSE. Because your body is so sensitive right now (withdrawal, depression, whatever), the alcohol will throw you back into a worse level of depression for a period after you drink. You are drinking to numb yourself, but my experience is that right now it will make you think and feel more. So cut back, okay? Think about all this. Give the zispin more time. What do you have to lose? Given more time, these other factors may be worked through, and the good effects of the zispin will increase for you. My opinion? I really think that given time this WILL work for you. But that's just my opinion. I'm here if you want to talk some more.

Hey Kimba28,
Thanks for your reply. I am really hoping the Zispin works! One positive effect is that it has removed my craving for a drink to numb the pain.. I guess this means that it has worked some what eh? I had quite a normal day yesterday in terms of my depression.... I even found myself managing to think about other things in my life. I was hopeful this was the start of the tablets working but today has been tough... it makes no sense to me as I have nothing in my life that is causing me to feel like crap... its like I am being depressed because I am depressed. I am hoping that this is the medication starting to work as I have not had an ok day for a long time. When I started Citalopram however the depression lifted overnight. Oh yeah... the head zaps have all bot stopped - dont know if its the fish oil or just that it is almost 3 weeks since taking it last. Gonna carry on with the fish oil anyway.
Hope your doing OK. you speak a lot of sence!
Cheers for now,
Dylan x

 Hi Dylan!

I think you are right...the difference in your alcohol craving means SOMETHING is changing! I am not sure, but I have read that it is different for diferent people on different meds. I know...DUH!! Right? I guess what I am trying to say is that I have talked to other people who have had the same trouble of their meds changing things slowly. First they only had a good day here or there, to be followed by a "bad" period. But pretty soon after that, there were more good days. They started happening more frequently, and lasting for more days. Eventually, the "good" periods were longer than the bad. Do you think this might be starting to happen to you? I will tell you that after you give it awhile, you need to search yourself really hard and listen to that voice inside. Follow your gut feelings. I ignored mine, and it's gotten me into a fair amount of trouble that I am still trying to get out of.
I am continuing with the fish oil too. I don't know if it is the fact that it's been a few weeks for me, or if it is the supplements I am taking. And I don't know about you, but I don't want to mess with it to find out either! (lol!) My withdrawals are going pretty good, if you can call having withdrawals good... Keep posting and let me know if your good days are increasing!

Hey Kimba28... long time - well it feels like a long time when you are suffering every day.
I have now been on the Remeron for 5 weeks at the full 30mg dose. 7 weeks in total. I dont feel as if my mood is imroving that much. I guess if I compare it to 2 months ago it is a lot better but I feel like i have reached a peak. Still feel crap most days.
The head zaps have gone. It took about 2 weeks for them to go completely. How are you doing with the fish oil?
I want to give Lexapro a go. My mum has been on it and it worked for her... same body chemistry. I know it is the same drug as Celexa which stopped working after being on it for 5 years but I have read good things about it on remedyfind.com
Anyway, let me know how you are getting on. Cheers for now, Dylan
