Need I say more! I have to quit. I tried the gum before and it worked good I just could not afford it due to other health problems and not working for more than a year. Any advise would be helpfull so please. Thanks.

How is it going. I dipped for about a year and a half then quit but unfortunately just started up again. I used the generic Walgreens patch and bought some sunflower seeds. When you have the patch on use sunflower seeds, the salt constricts the inside of your mouth much like dip does, and the patch helps A LOT!. Good luck, I plan on quitting soon again, how long have you dipped for?

Hey Derek- -

Long time no hear, buddy. :) Nice to hear that you are wanting to quit the dip. I know it's tough, but so is quitting smoking... so if I can, YOU CAN!!! :nono:

I agree with Boofy up there, the patch, (or Nic gum) might be a very good choice for you. The patches worked great for me, btw. I'm coming up on my 1 year quit anniversary this Friday, in fact. (I'm thrilled!) :D The sunflower seeds sounds like a good idea as well, as you will need something in your mouth, (for a while) to replace the habit of chewing. That's why I'm thinking nicotene gum might be the way to go for you.

Haven't heard from Laurie for a few months now. I think she was successful in maintaining her quit, she just moved on. Hopefully she'll be back to post on her anniversary. (in Nov.)

Nice hearing from you, Derek.
Don't forget to come here for more support, if you need to.

The gum helps but it's hard on your teeth and jaw :( I need to quit too, but when I try then I start smoking again. It's a viscious cycle.

I know it a very hard thing to do, but please don't give up, just try again, and again if you have to. They say it takes most people an average of 8 attempts before they finally become smoke free. Yet I've heard of many people getting it right the first or second time. If your will to quit is strong, then you can do it! :nono:
I had quit at least 10 times, 2 times I went a full year, always to go back to it. Now tomorrow will be my one year anniversary, and this time I know it's for good. I feel stronger about it mentally this time, and I worked harder on this quit than I had all of the other times. I loved smoking too, thought I couldn't live without it! I was wrong, as I'm doing great today, rarely want one, changed my life style to that of seeking better heath all around. I now exercise daily, eat healthy foods, find time everyday for relaxation, etc. I needed to change other things around in my life to get to this point, but it was all so worth it. And you can do it too!
Please don't think you are a failure! You've just done the same as many of us have done. You're only a failure if you give up and don't try again!
Read a lot of the posts here by people who have succeeded in quitting. Make a plan, a date to quit, do you want to try cold turkey, or a nicotene replacement aid? Get the support you need from a list like this, or a class in your community. Just do it! ('Cos I know you can!) :)
Good luck!
Deda
