Okay, if someone would have told me about this option to take Vit.B-12 and the terrific results, I would have been my usual pessimistic self. Always tired, dragging around, even memory and concentration problems for so long and was taking B-100's all along too.

Then I found out about the fact that B-12 does not absorb well taken by tab, in fact we lose about 90% of whatever we take that way. Shots were the best but who wanted to do that daily? I read that B-12 can actually become a deficiency around middle age and after that we begin to show signs of it in a major way, especially energy and those mental skills that become sluggish. It effects our heart as well and our lipid levels.

I purchased a 30 day supply of sublingual(dissolved under the tongue) Vitamin B-12, 1000 mcg. which also contains 400 mcg.folic acid, 5 mg. Vitamin B-6 and 25 mcg. Biotin. This tab is absorbed immediately into my system for the best results.

That was almost 3 months ago and even by 1 month there was a big difference in this lazy person. I know my mental capabilities across the board are enhanced, like a veil has been lifted. I swear even my vision seems clearer. My husband actually said to me the other night, "when are you going to just sit down and stop already" and it was almost 10. I was ironing!

Add to that, I have lost 12 lbs. That was the bonus. Don't know if it has anything to do directly with B-12 but maybe the increased activity.
I know I can't post the name of the product. I saw a commercial for it, one of those infomercials. Since the husband and wife were well known to me as a reputable couple who were hosting the product, I purchased it. All I know is that a Dr. Libby formulated it. It cost $23.99 the first time and as a member, it is $19.99 thereafter. It is worth every penny.... :bouncing:

Had to comment quickly on your post. I'm practically out the door to work but saw it and needed to reply. My daughter (age 33) has been disabled and unable to work since late March. She's seen several neurologists and been referred here and there --- it just seems to go on and on. She has ataxia and speech is rather slurred and stuttery. This has gone on for months. A neurologist in Rochester that she was referred to did some bloodwork; among other things was testing for Lyme Disease. He got back to us with the results a couple weeks ago and there was no Lyme, but she has a vitamin B12 deficiency that's significant enough to have cause these problmes. That's the good news. The bad news is that he doesn't know if she'll get any of her deficit back. But we'll see. She began B12 shots last week. They scheduled her for another next month. I had thought more frequently would be the protocol since she has such severe symptoms. Bottom line is, I think you're very fortunate to discover this deficiency before it became severe because it can cause so many other problems. Her memory at the beginning was bad and that was one of the first real problems to put her off work. That was before her speech and gait were affected. She's a nurse and the memory thing just wouldn't cut it! Good luck to you.

Was she a vegetarian, if not, I'm confused!

In answer to your question, she is NOT vegetarian but has suffered for about two years with constant, chronic diarrhea which was diagnosed last year as ulcerative colitis. She was under evaluation for Crohn's, celiac disease, and other malabsorption syndromes but the ulcerative colitis is what they came up with. I believe there's some connection between the two. The constant diarrhea perhaps depletes the body's supply of B12 or makes it impossible for it to be absorbed into her system - I'm really not sure how it works. I don't pretend to understand it all. I hope this clears up the confusion. It seems to be backed up by what I've read so I took it at face value.

Irishone- In April of 2002 i was diagnosed with a severe B-12 deficiency, after much research, I believe mine to be autoimmune in origin. At that time I had lost 30 pounds and couldn't stand without assistance, plus numerous other symptoms. By June, I was getting around on my own with a walker, also going up and downstairs (I live on the second floor). My mind and memory are probably better than they have ever been. I still have problems with balance. You know the old saying-can't think and chew gum at the same time- Well, I can't walk and look around me, I have to look at where I'm going, and therefore use a cane when I go out. I can walk without the cane when I'm home or if I don't have to cross the street. Walking is not the concentrated effort it was, but I do have problems if there are people around watching me. Also, I can't stand with my eyes close. And I cant carry heavy things, as they throw me off balance. But I will not give up hope! I was hospitalized when I found this out and was given an injection a day for 1 week, then one a week for 1 month and now it's once a month. I beleive your daughter should start to see some improvement soon. I wish her the best.

As far as sublingual, I have heard of it and have not ruled out that option. Some time in the future when I get the rest of my life straightened out I'll look into it in more depth.

Idylavender, thanks so much for giving me some hope. My daughter seems to be pretty much as you described yourself. She's having difficulty with the steps (2 story house) and has used a walker for several months. I've done a lot of reading since this discovery and she's checked the medical records of her doctors office and local hospital and I'm really confused about something. Perhaps you might be able to explain it. She had a very low normal level in September of last year when she was hospitalized with ulcerative colitis. In May, two months after her problems began, labs gave a level of 550. I was of the understanding that once it was depleted, without treatment there would never be a reversal. And then in early September, it was 160. I'm not sure I understand the 550 in May and believe it possible that the May level was incorrectly reported. I'm very concerned that she'll never recover her deficits but am told the treatment would stop the progression so I suppose we have to deal with it. A shame, if she gets none of it back. She's a registered nurse and a single mother. Things have been so difficult for all of us. But your post has me encouraged. I don't think they're being as aggressive as they need to be with only a shot a month but I'm rather helpless to do anything about it. Thanks again for your post. Pat

I've been using a form of these for a few weeks now after some blood worked showed I might be b12 deficient. They were only 9$ for a 2 month supply and I picked them up in a health food store. Time will tell if they help, but at 4.5$ a month I can afford to wait and find out.
