View Full Version : Spotting on depo, lactation?

I have been on Depo Provera for about 3 months (I get my next shot on October 20th).

You get the shot within the first five days of your period, and since then, I haven't had a period since then. When I should have gotten my period, this incessant spotting has occured. It isn't anywhere near a period, just an annoying brown spotting. Recently, it has gotten redder, but it is not any heavier.

I don't know exactly what to do about the spotting, although annoying, it doesn't bother me.

What does, however, is that, I noticed that if I squeeze my right breast a little, a milky white substance will bead out. It isn't much, just a small little bead, however, I didn't know women were able to do that outside of pregnancy. Is it caused from the hormones in the shot or could it be possible that I might be pregnant?

Could someone please help me? Thanks.

I don't know anything about depo so I don't know if lactation is a side effect. But if its not, you should have your prolactin checked. Yes, its the hormone made during pregnancy and while you are breast feeding. But everyone has a little in their system anyways. It can get elevated due to hormone problems or a benign pituitary tumor which is treated with medication if caught early enough.

I meant to say thyroid problems, not hormone problems :)

Anything is possible with that train wreck of a birth control. I would seriously rethink that 2nd injection. Search the internet and read all of the horror stories.
