Are any of you ladies currently breastfeeding and on some sort of birth control. My husband is deployed so my doctor decided to wait to put me on birth control since I don't need it yet and so my milk comes in really well. What are my options besides Depo? Thanks in advance.

When I worked in a pharmacy the there was a pill called the mini-pill that was given to breastfeeding mothers.
It is a progesterone only pill. You have to be very strict in taking it at the same time every day. I think there can only be about a 1/2 hour difference either side (such as if your normal time to take it is 8pm then the earliest you can take it is 7.30pm and the latest is 8.30pm) for it to be effective.

Saka is right, the Mini pill is a very good option for those breast feeding or those who cannot handle the extra estrogen.
The small window of error is very crutial though (however I thought and was told it was 3 hours) I missed my window and boom....I'm now 13 weeks pregnant....
Also another thing to add about them is if you miss one use back up protection for a month, because you cannot double up on them like the combination pills.

My OBG perscribed a birth control pill that was safe while breastfeeding, I'll try to find the name, it wasn't called the mini pill though, unless that's a nickname. Ask your DR. they do have pills that are fine.

Mini pill is just the nick name....The one I was given (Can't have the combo pills) was Ortho Micronor...nice thing about it is it caused me to have periods only every two months and they were super light. I plan on going back to it once the baby is born.....but won't go to the generic brand like I was on this time (according to my OBGYN you have even less room to play with the generic....which I don't understand but hey...that's why she gets paid the big bucks right?...:p )

I remembered the name lastnight and yes, it was Micronor...I didn't get a period until after I finished breastfeeding at 9 months...nice break!
