Hey guys, I am 19 and quite frankly have major libido problems for like almost a year now. I don't know what the cause is but my endocrinologist say it could either be hormonal or physiological. He says the problem I am having right now is probably suffered from depression. I guess I am very depressed as I see most of the symptoms of depression. The problem is I don't see how depression can really affect libido. I mean there are millions of people out there who deal with stress and they have fine libido. The question I wanna ask is for all you who are depressed. Do you know if depression really affect a libido that much? If so, how am I suppose to get it treated and have libido at same time with depression meds.? My sex drive is almost a complete zeeeeeeeeero right now. Do any of you who are depressed still get turn on like watchin porn or watching erotic movies? I know this is gettin abit personal but I would really like to know how much depression could affect a libido. I really need some help and love it if you guys would reply to me, ty very so much... :)

hey there, u were probably expecting a reply from a guy... but hope this helps. I'm a 17yr old girl suffering from cronic depression, i know how u feel with the whole lack of libido. i'm still interested in guys (and girls..) but my sex drive has vanished. its destroyed many relationships and is starting to destroy the one im in now. as for porn.. sometimes yeah i get turned on. cant believe im telling u this.. but i used to watch alot of porn, got ridiculously turned on and ahem.. used the 'magic fingers' about 4 times a day.. every day, until i got really depressed a few years ago and then everything just felt empty and pointless. to the point were nothing turned me on, and i couldnt be assed with sex. i guess what im trying to say is ur not alone, but sex is one of the most normal things that we as people do.. so in time.. ur libido should come back. have u tried psychotherapy? my doctor made me go, it didnt help me but i know other's who have 'got better' from it.. so give it a go, its free in the uk..
hopes this helps

Tony, I think that you should have your testosterone level checked, through a simple blood test. This hormone is responsible for libido, or lack of. At your age, you would have to be bedridden with depression, for it to affect your libido, the way you have described. Now if you take the meds for depression, that can decrease your libido for sure. Are you confused about your sexuality? If not, I would have a urologist check my reproductive system, for proper operation.

if the cause or your depression is self-esteem related then theres the solution. i have low self esteem, very low self esteem in fact and i have found that i have no interest in sex what so ever.
that could be one problem, the other could be hormonal, if it is bothering you so much then why not ask ur gp to do a hormonal test.
good luck
